Where is this (reprise)?

It is, or more likely was, somewhere in Glasgow. Looks pretty identifiable, if it was a place you'd ever been in.

I believe it's done the rounds of Serious Glasgow Experts, so major Brownie points for an ID with corroborative evidence.

I take it it wasn't the old Corporation Halls/McLellan galleries in Sauchiehall St?

Given that the seats have maybe been removed ? it's more like a Hall rather than a theatre

They may have to go back to the newspaper archives for this one Josef. The man seated in the centre of the front row has been clearly 'circled' making me think that the original image was from a newspaper or magazine. Can't make up my mind if this is a Theatre or one of the many Assembly Halls in Glasgow. This is going to be a tough one to crack and best of luck to all that try and solve it (you know we all love a challange)

Just thinking - if it was a theatre would the seats have been easily removed without leaving marks or could it have been a sort of grand ante room part of a theatre?

In the background - would that have been a permanent backdrop or one done for this particular event?
and is it mountains or pyramids?

It's from a member of the Old Glasgow club, Robert. The owner of the photo is, I think, trying to trace the location of the wedding reception of the man circled. Which I suppose may be a clue in itself.

It's grand but not on a huge scale

What about a smaller room /venue at the old St Andrew's Halls?

Anyone put a year on it?

to say I take that back they could have just been having the phoaties taken in that particular Hall

It is certainly a very posh wedding!

It looks like there is an Oriental theme going on - those look like painted paper lanterns at each side of the picture. Above the stage, centrally placed, that looks like a laurel wreath either side of a man's face. Intriguing ......

Does he/she know when the wedding took place, and in what area..... might give us a clue to the location of the reception?

What about the Grosvenor rooms, opposite Central Station?

Good point, Bridie. The balcony clearly implies a theatre of some sort, but the floor doesn't.

The backdrop looks theatrical, so could maybe be tied to a particular performance.

[edit] : ibtg: I'll try to get dates.

I am desperately searching for a picture of interiors of halls and restaurants with little or no luck.

The Grosvenor building is at 60-80 Gordon Street. Although it is now shops an offices, when it was originally built it housed the Grosvenor Restaurant, which I believe was quite posh and wedding parties were held there.

Whether it had a Hall, as in 'theatre', I don't know, but it could be a possibility??

Bridie's mention of possible pyramids made me wonder about the Egyptian Halls.

I was a bit surprised to discover the Virtual Mitchell's 'subject search' doesn't have a category for Halls - especially since there are so many around Glasgow.

I thought the Eqyptian Halls as well but then I'm not sure about pyramids now as it also look a bit Roman

Also there's a picture of the sail of a boat with a sun motif in the bottom left of the backdrop

Whats that at the top left on the wall? Is it a light fitment?

Also is that an electricity plug at the top right above the blokes heads on the wall. I thought at first it was an exit sign :)

Hang on is it a Freemason Hall?
