Stranded

Postby Dexter St. Clair » Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:34 pm

I'm stuck in Portimao as my flight TOM1733 due to depart from Faro to Glasgow on Sunday 18th April has been cancelled. i've no direct contact with Thomsons Airways nor travel republic who booked the holiday.

I have this feeling that I will be travelling to Faro to establish contact with a Thomson's rep to be told that they might put me up in a Faro hotel if they can find one.

I'm keeping in touch via the thomson's site , the more than useless travel republic, the live faro departures site and the BBC.

There's going to be a whole load of empty desks in Glasgow on Monday.

There's a train from Portimao to Faro, but its very infrequent, but the whole journey is only about an hour. It brings you to the city centre.

Portimao is nice. If you have to be stranded, I can think of worse places.

Wish I was stuck in portimao... but no I'm stuck in Hamilton with the wife. It's ok though she'll never know I said that.

You should take a quick trip to the solmonte hotel in praia sq rocha and goto Toni's bar. Tell him Mark sent you and that Benfica and Motherwell are shite... a very good night will be had.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Thomsons have half accepted they are responsible for flying us back but have not given me any information as to when. Travel Republic must have been on to their lawyers and communicated their advice to thomsons.

It's been raining every day since last Tuesday but managed to get to Alvor for a meal and some beers. I thought Praia do Rocha was too much like Blackpool but that's just me.

I was in Pai Thomas snack bar and the items on the news were #3 Earthquake in China, #2 Pope's visit to Porugal and #1 Benefica beat Sporting. Guess which team the bar owner supported as he switched the telly off and grimly served me a sandwich.

i flew to iceland on friday night, and flew back today, only 1 day late, so cant complain. icelandair were easy to get a hold of and sorted new flights with no worries. though there was a point i thought i may be stuck until friday.
flight out was great, empty airport and only 20 - odd passengers on the plane!
