The MOST beautiful places in Scotland.

Clearly there are gonna be LOADS.

I'll start with the view from the top of Screel in Galloway. You get the most amazing panoramic views over the rolling green hills (I can also see my home from here which adds to it). You are right above Balcaray Bay looking out over Hestan Island and the Solway. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

Sometime i will lug my tripod up and takea panorama or two from the top.

There's a beach at North Berwick, about ten minutes from the town itself. Don't know exactly where, as I was following someone else.

It's quiet and secluded (a sunny day like yesterday there were fewer than forty people in total there). The Bass Rock is directly in front of you, Tantallon Castle is on the cliff to your left and further back to the right is the shell of an old mansion house, which one day I'll go back and explore.

Quiet, undisturbed, sunny, lovely......
Too few hours in the day.

A different type of beautiful: inside the Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle. It's stunningly designed, the outside was built from the stone of an earlier building, so it fits in with the surroundings, and inside is so solemn and peaceful. Whenever I go in and look around the feeling I get when I think of what these men did and what they died for almost moves me to tears.
Too few hours in the day.

Yup, and it is getting rather hot.

I would say another great view is approaching Dundee across the Tay bridge.

An impossible choice, but the west coast of Scotland seems to have a unique attraction, not missed by our wealthy industrial and trading forefathers. They could have afforded to build their mansions anywhere, but many elected to show their wealth in our one-time resorts, and any of the hundreds of locations where the land meets the sea between and beyond Oban, Campbelltown and Wigton.

Even the Botanic Gardens started life behind the house of John Kibble at Coulport.

Argyll for me is the most beautiful county in Scotland - sure a lot of the towns are sh*t holes, but get out into the hills and the hill lochs and there's nothing to beat it.

(Not biased at all originally coming from Inveraray :P)

Glencoe. Simple as that, nothing can touch it. All the places mentioned are great but just can't compare to the absolute amazement you feel the first time you see Glencoe. :D

All I managed was a drive through it on the way to Inverness and it knocked me for six, but that was a Saturday afternoon and there were tourists everywhere. Came back on the Sunday night, 11pm, still light but the sun had set, and the place was totally deserted. I tell you it scared the crap out of me. All the superlatives you could think of couldn't do it justice. Sorry to go on but if there is one place you should visit in Scotland before you die it's Glencoe. :!:

I'm done now, I need to go relax I think.

I agree with Glencoe, but a few other places spring to mind:

Arisaig, on the road to Mallaig - make sure you turn off the new road a few miles before Mallaig and take the old single track effort along the shore. There's a wee sandy beach next to a golf course where the water is clear and the sand is golden, just breathtaking!

And if you're up that way, on the road between Fort William and Glenfinnan, turn off down the Moidart peninsula and seek out Castle Tiroam. There's a bit of a dispute going on over this, with the owner and locals wanting it restored, but Historic Scotland disagreeing. I'm kinda with Historic Scotland, it's a wonderful ruin on a small tidal island, reached across a sandy causeway.
