To help assess his need for help with stress, if this is drug related he'll need the help just the same as if it has been caused by his work. In fact the need may be much greater and longer lasting as addiction is not necessarily specific to the source of the addiction but a far more general 'addictive nature' type thing.

Kaplick (his psychiatrist) is also trained in eating disorders. It's not known whether he also specialises in the treatment of curry addiction, the love of older women or a fondness for the sound of your own voice.

Dr. Florian Kaplick is the psychiatrist at Castle Craig.

He says that Purcell doesn't have a drug problem, which possibly explains why he was in Castle Craig for a weekend rather than the usual six weeks.

If that's the case, one wonders if there wasn't some ulterior motive for Purcell going there in the first place. Illness is a mitigating factor in criminal cases.

Curioser and curioser.

Whilst illness is a mitigating factor it is possible Purcell needed specifically to document a potential mental health issue caused by his work, this is a point he might want to push if things dont' go his way he might argue that he is suffering a disability and it has been purely caused by GGC. I would not recommend this as a direct course of action but you're best banking all the evidence you can before you embark on whatever it is you have planned. innit!

Counciller Purcell?
1) Curry Addiction - yes,
2) Fondness for the sound of your own voice - yes
3) Love of older women? surely not

I've come to the conclusion that there was an alleged scuffle between a certain councillor and a certain goalkeeper - (you know the drill no names no pack drill  ) well it's the only thing that hasn't been suggested so far.

You got any evidence about your outlandish McThuggish allegation?

Given the known partisanship of several of the posters on this thread, I'm well impressed with the civility of this thread thus far.

[otherwise..]

Johnny, I'd be hugely surprised if the opposition parties on GCC didn't seek to make political capital out of Purcell's resignation. I'm damn sure I would, were I to be them. In the same vein, Dex's inferences are as valid as any up to this point in the thread. For which, see below...

Whilst there is room for interpretation in the good doctor's statement ('Dr Kaplick said it needed to be noted that Mr Purcell was not treated for "a drug problem"'), there is equally, to my knowledge, no evidence that such a "drug problem" exists.

And in the absence of such evidence, I withdraw my response to HH's post earlier in this thread. I really should start reading the local press.

Like the majority of politicians the guy has fucked up , infact we all fuck up at one point in our lives. Unfortunatley for Mr Purcell its with media hype he has fucked up. We do not have the truth about the guy and at this point I still give him the benifit of the doubt. He seemed to work very hard for Glasgow but I only see and hear the politcian so I cannot make any personnal judgement on him. But i hope he does get better and get back to work.
To many people listening to half truths and demanding the guy get the bump.
Thank you. And why not.
