We still haven't been to Speakeasy. From what we've heard, it seems to be full of young screamers and old lechers. Just the same as any other gay venue in Glasgow.

I have, without ever having been in the place, been under the impression for a good couple of decades that The Muscular Arms was a gay bar. Only to be informed this very evening that this was, in fact, a delusional impression. Anyone able to confirm either way?

Whilst I'm sure some gays drank there it was more of a watering hole for accountants who always had the right money for a drink and women interested in accountants because of their imagined big wallets. It was even less of a gay bar than Tennents.

I work in Borders, and today we had a request for particular type of book. It was a gentleman wanting a book that could help him explain to his young son about his being gay. He said he used to have such a book but lost it in a house move. We unfortunately don't have anything like this in the store, and we are looking to redress this, but are unsure where to start! He thought it was called 'Gay Dads', but a search on Amazon gave us a book with that name that is 'twenty-four personal accounts from men describing their unique journeys to fatherhood', it's more of a 'true stories' style book than a practical help guide. Any ideas? Obviously it's not just gay dads we're out to help, but gay mums too! So any titles or authors we can look into would be most appreciated.

By curious coincidence, just last night I read this post about the Wasilla (Sarah Palin's hometown) library at The Stranger (Seattle's alternative weekly newspaper). And Tango Makes Three would seem to be the answer.

The gay scene in Glasgow has been rubbish since the Vintners, Austins (the original one, not the placebo) and Squires all closed. Bennets? Ugh. Dels? Too prissy. The only decent place (unless you are 18) is Revolver.

Someone asked about the legendary Betty Hutton - last I heard, she had semi-retired, following a nasty heart attack.

Sorry to join the topic late and to backtrack somewhat, but I just wanted to offer my congratulations to the population of the board and to the moderators. It's a great compliment to you all that when a narrow-minded little sod pops up from time to time, he sticks out like a sore thumb and his mere presence makes him look like a moron before he gets properly started.

One of the best things about HG, if you ask me. It's always heartwarming to find a place that's fairly free of bigoted fuckwits.

Let's face it, the fugwits are generally irradiated by The Man, as soon as they cross the threshold.
