I can't find any mention of it anywhere .. I seem to remember it being next to the Underground station, a mate says it opened in 1979 .. I have my doubts.

Found some info .. it was Lite-Bite, the sit-in cafe belonging to the City Bakeries. There was a function suite upstairs. The function suite became the head office of Munro Cleaners and Klick Photopoint in the late 80's. The Lite Bite became a Wimpy for a while and then in 1990 it became a Burgerking. The Burgerking then closed down and KFC took over for a while it has since closed and become Paperino's (an Italian Restaurant).

No info yet on the date it opened as a Wimpy mind .. still hunting.

May I be the first to reference John Cooper Clarke's "Salome Malone"?

I remember one inside Harthill Services eastbound, this would have been maybe around 1997?

Gone - it's now the Wild Bean Cafe.....

I've kept on nagging Wimpy on their Facebook page wanting them to reopen a restaurant in Glasgow city centre. They keep saying "sorry, lack of interested franchisees". Which I find bizarre...after all how can you NOT make a burger joint successful in the junk food capital of Europe?? Why did the three Wimpy's that we had in the town close down anyway? The Ingram St one is now a ladies lingerie shop that last time I looked, the Union St one is now a Subway, and my favourite one in the Sauchiehall Centre is gone completely.

Maybe we on HG should take the initiative - any potential business partners interested?? There are plenty of prime vacant sites in the town at the moment.....

There was definitely a Wimpy on Sauchiehall Street in the 80s (covering 2 floors) which became Burger King.

It was across the road from Lauders.

There was indeed. My friend got a Saturday job there as a "Wimpy Litter Picker" which included dressing up as some kind of mascot and picking up rubbish around the Wimpy. She lasted one Saturday. :)
