A couple of years ago I represented somebody at t Criminal Injuries appeal. Part of the evidence was that my client had been with his girlfriend prior to being attacked. He gave evidence that his girlfriend had nipped him just before the random attack.

Anyway, (and you can see where this is going!!) the appeals panel is made up of a chairman and two wing members. The wing members are usually "Flight Lt Smythington-Chalmers, rtd" and "Lady Bufton-Tufton of Chuffbanger-on-the-Sly" etc.

At the conclusion and summing up of the evidence, Lady Bufton Tufton asks "About this nipping incident, can anyone shed any light on this? Was this part of the assault .... "etc etc, to which the entire room just about falls apart and it's explained by the Chairman that this is something of a colloqualism!

Maybe you had to be there!

Not so much a quote as a ned tale.
I was sitting on the bus behind two neds who were jabbering away to each other. After a brief silence the conversation went.

Ned 1- Did ye heer whit hapnd tae Joe-Joe

Ned 2- Whit hapnd tae Joe-Joe

ned 1- He wis oot the other night, and this big cnut keep bumpin intae him.
Joe-Joe turns tae him an saes "Gonna get tae fcuk or al kick box ye".............Cnut wis a fcukin kick boxer.

I had to sit there and keep a straight face while thinking about Joe-Joe somewhere recovering. Hopefully in plaster.
