The Long Tunnel

Postby Godsgift » Thu Dec 18, 2014 9:18 pm

I have memories as a boy of my dad driving me through a long arched sandstone tunnel I suspect under a railway in the north of the city. There was a sharp bend in from either end and only after the bend, did you see the tunnel in front of you. I also think I may have used this tunnel as late as 1988-89 though I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea where this would have been?

That's the one. I recognise the tunnel. Needless to say, the area was much different in the 60s. Thanks everyone.

I used to work in the Cape insulation factory at Germiston Works (first graduate job...) - went through the tunnel every day for a year on my daily commute - remember it well!

Just realised I go through this tunnel a few times a week on my way up to Stobhill. Not for much longer though :D
