Many thanks for the link Robert. These pictures are very interesting and many of them are, I would say, of historical significance. I enjoyed in particular looking at the 1960's colour photographs. They are a reminder to those of us of a certain age, such as myself, of how dark and dingy, as well as rundown, most Glasgow buildings used to be. Of course many of the buildings which were subsequently demolished could in retrospect have been saved and renovated. Nevertheless, if you compare the appearance of this city now with what it was like 40 or 50 years ago the improvement has been immense.

Many thanks for posting those Robert - brilliant collection of photos :D

I was interested to see photos of the Garscube Colliery which I had never heard of until today. Bought a copy of James Cowan's book (Glasgow's Treasure Chest) and it included some old cut-outs from newspaper articles. There was one from the Glasgow Herald Friday 12 August 1966 about the colliery closing that day.

Thanks for the wonderful pics. Many are before my time but quite a few are recent enough to me to be amazed that the city has changed so much in my time. Partly I feel a sort of post industrialisation, end of empire sadness for what I missed and the supposed modernisation of the city but I can just imagine the post war desire for a brave new modern world and a modern city. I worked briefly in Port Dundas in the old warehouse which is now Yuppie flats for Clyde Bonding and although it had character, I have to admit, it was a rat infested hole. Perhaps I have to remember that old pics don't tell the whole story. :)

Thanks again to David Holgate and Robert for this outstanding collection. They're proving to be as important as John Hume's photographs of an earlier era.
