Jimmy McCulloch at The Ivanhoe Hotel

Postby hungryjoe » Thu Jul 15, 2010 4:56 pm

I remember hearing that Jimmy did a regular Sunday night cabaret spot with (I think) Hammy, the singer with local band Stiltz.
Does anyone have any info on this?

Spotted that man !

In 1969, Pete Townshend, The Who's guitarist, was the catalyst behind the formation of the band. THUNDERCLAP NEWMAN The concept was to create a band to perform songs written by former Who roadie and drummer/singer John 'Speedy' Keen, who had written "Armenia City in the Sky", the first track on The Who Sell Out. Townshend recruited eccentric GPO engineer and jazz pianist Andy 'Thunderclap' Newman (a friend from art college),and 15-year-old Glaswegian Jimmy McCulloch. Keen played the drums and sang the lead.

Doesn't say what Jimmy played - Joe ?? Over to you.

He also make the best spoken word contribution to Dark Side of the Moon.

Aye, but does anyone know anything about him playing The Ivanhoe on a Sunday night? A 22 year old from St Louis Missouri, is making a documentary about the wee man and any help would be appreciated.
This young guy really is doing his research (he's a fan), I've only this week, discovered that it was he who posted Blue's Little Jody - complete with Jimmy McCulloch overdubs, on to Youtube. I've been a fan of Blue for years and had never heard of this, or known that Jimmy was briefly in the band

Most of the guitar playing is by Hughie Nicholson, but a lot of the tasty wee fills linking vocal lines near the end, is Jimmy.

Here's the original album track, without Jimmy

Yes I am on about the same Jimmy. It seems that my assuming that everyone would know that he had died, was a mistake.
