Glasgow Quiz

Postby Anorak » Fri Mar 05, 2010 4:16 pm

I’ve created a 5 round interactive Southside quiz, which may be of interest.

A couple of examples:
Which south side landmark building was previously situated in Queen Street in the city centre from 1847 to 1901?
Which south side school did Stan Laurel (of Laurel and Hardy fame) attend?

I intend to create further less parochial quiz pages on other Glasgow topics.
Suggestions for additional categories are welcome.

32/50 is the score to beat for southside smartasses!

On the technical side of creating quiz pages in html, without the need for JavaScript or all kinds of weird and wonderful mechanics.

I uncovered an obscure American quiz, written it pure html with the highlighted answers.

You only need one page per round, with both questions and answers in the one page.
Doesn’t eat up your bandwidth and allows you to be a boring old grumpy grandpa!

Anyone interested in creating other Glasgow quiz pages are welcome to steal the basic outline, changing colours and layouts, at Southside quiz.

It’s my new toy and will keep me going ‘til next time.

I’ve started the picture section of the quiz pages by creating a couple of image based rounds, attaching a few questions and answers to the jpegs.

I can’t pretend to have known all the answers off the top of my head without a bit of research.
A wee while back, I had to ask HG regulars to tell me the whereabouts of the picture below.

Here’s the link to the Glasgow Picture Quiz.

Should have a wider interest base than the Southside Quiz

Enjoy!!

I’ve added a new West End Quiz to my quiz pages, with just a couple of rounds to start of off with.
Being more of a Southsider, I had to look at old books and maps for the questions and answers, rather than relying on being a smartarse.
Hopefully there still may be a few questions to trip up even the more knowledgeable Westenders?

I’ve also added a couple more pages to the Glasgow Picture Quiz , bringing it up to 4 rounds.

Enjoy!

19/50 for the south side quiz :( At least I got the ones about Crookston right, I stay there!

I'll give the other ones a go now. Great idea Anorak, thank you :)

I’m still waiting for suggestions for unusual quiz rounds created from Hidden Glasgow themes.

Please fire away at the new contact address on the quiz web pages, misguidedly designed to avoid spammers.
