Not sure I'm going to read all 7 pages of this at the moment so forgive me if it's been asked, but why do the new double deckers have a metal handle down the left hand (?) side at the top? It's like a hand rail!

Do you mean on the outside corner ? It's to help prevent damage to that area from overhanging trees. It's a common problem with double deckers.

Where you really have to be careful is on open-topped buses - my dad got whacked by a branch once on holiday!
