Old Jordanhill - Victoria Park Branch & Scotstoun East

Postby jonno22 » Fri May 29, 2009 10:17 am

Hi all. I've added 24 images to the Glasgow Riverside Railway gallery on my site.
Myself and my friend Darrel went out to explore the old Jordanhill - Victoria Park line
(Glasgow) which was closed in the late 1950s after the existing Jordanhill - Dalmuir
line (and the whole Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire) was electrified. The short branch
line served a passenger station, Victoria Park station which served the popular Victoria public park and
a freight line continued past the station down to the ship buildings in Scotstoun.
The line, in its final days prior to complete closure, was used for the stabling of
trains that were used to assist in the installation on the electrification within
the area in 1958 / 59. Myself and Darrel also visited Scotstoun East station which was
a station on the other line which served Scotstoun residents (The Glasgow Riverside Railway
which was part of the Caledonian Railway (Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire)). Below are
the links to the photographs from our historic urban exploration:

Jonathan, every time I look at your photographs I feel like putting on my anorak. I cannot honestly say I’m that interested in the topic of Scotland’s railways. You clearly have a great knowledge of the subject. I do, however, love looking at your photographs. The quality of them is just superb. You definitely have a knack of making the ordinary look interesting.

I see that you have a copyright on each of them. Do you do this as a living? Oh, and what type of camera do you use?

Hi there. Thank you for your posotive feedback. Just one thing, I AINT A TRAINSPOTTER (without shouting just emphasising the fact). I take a good interest in the railway environment, infraststructure, behind the scenes and whatnot. Trains to do some into my photography of course they do but to be honest I dont like trains the way train spotters like trains. I am a rail enthusiast not a train enthusiast - a big difference :). I am using an Olympus E - 500 at the moment. I just recently purchased the Fuji 100 fs £350 (deal price hehe) and I am looking forward to it being delivered to me next week sometime:). I do make a living off it at the moment yes as I do not have a job. But part of my success in life is to be a professional photographer and a train driver (I like the driving off trains and would like to think I have good knowledge on this aspect of the railways also). I have recently being doing commercial work for ScotRail and S.P.T. as well as Scottish Governemtn Transport Agency, Transport Scotland. If you want to know more do not hesitate to send myself an e - mail - [email protected]

Best Regards

Some interesting photos in that thread - keep them coming!

I live nearby to some of the areas you have 'shot' and what amazes me, is the fact that I have been along that former line many times and never noticed half the stuff.

Well done!

Admitting it is the first step on the road to recovery.
