Where I was coming from using the word community in the question of housing (west end) is that for the last 20 odd years the rule of thumb has been new housing = private housing = massive profit to housebuilders and the banks and the government.
It has isolated areas and people and made "landlords" out of (some) people who are in it for a quick buck.
It has attributed to families who can't afford the hugely inflated house prices of the last decade to either lie to get run down social housing or to move from pillar to post on private tenancies.

In short it has made the rich richer and the poor poorer and isolted communities. I just wish housing ,in general, hadn't taken this huge step backwards............imo !

Interesting post!

The West End I grew up in (1950s and 1960s) was a community. That is no longer the case and it is probably impossible to change this in the foreseeable future. The proposed development of Otago Lane is wholly irrelevant to that discussion.

Name game blocks lane developer

A DEVELOPER has suffered a major setback after protesters spent just £30 to block his controversial multi-million pound plan for new flats and shops in Glasgow West End.
Hugh Scott didn't register the name of the firm which was to front the development in Otago Lane so opponents adopted the name and legally lodged it with Companies House.
It means the Otago Street Ltd name belongs to the protesters and not the developer

Otago Lane business owners Martin Fell, of Tchai-Ovna, clock restorer Kenneth Chapelle and record store boss Peter Ashby fear they will be forced out by the planned development. The Tchai-Ovna tea house is just one of the businesses which would be forced to close

Very Crafty i must say. :D

Would this mean that this developer would need to reregister as a new company under a new name and then resubmit to the planning dept, which would mean the whole process being delayed indifnitely and hence meaning that they would need to repay planning applications fees ?

can anyone elaborate.

Sounds like someone in the know gave them the info, but who cares, serves the developers right. ::):

700 say leave us a-lane...

25 May 2010

Hundreds of campaigners reacted angrily to a controversial blueprint which would see dozens of flats built in a Glasgow lane.

Within days of developer Hugh Scott submitting his masterplan for 142 flats at Otago Lane in the West End, hundreds of objections were lodged with the city council.

Protesters have blocked one plan and hope to do so again through the weight of opposition. Campaigners include leading politicians, as well as residents and businesses which expect they’ll be hit hard if the multi-million pound development gets the green light.

Despite failing to win the Glasgow North constituency for the LibDems at the General Election, Katy Gordon has promised to help lead the opposition.

I do hope that's not the Hugh Scott that my close have had to insist was under no circumstances to be considered for the carrying out of building repairs/maintenance after several years of witnessing the results of said endeavours. And who have had no need to carry out repeated repairs since.

Good luck against this man.
There is a lot of interest and support down Greenock way that H*** S**** does not get to bulldoze his way through the very lovely Otago Lane.

It took 3,000 Morton fans in a protest march to put pressure on S*****. He even threatened to close Morton 'like the shipyards', bad move indeed. A systematic campaign to undermine and highlight the true intentions of this man was waged and eventually won..

There is a large swell of support down at the Tail o the Bank for the Save Otago Lane campaign and many have been signing the online petition. I am sure there will be support offered if a protest is organised.

Good luck and here is hoping H*** S**** does not get his way.
