Steve it's his first post. He's posting on topic. Take it easy.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Indeed. Although the post itself falls into the Johnny Go_Go category. A bit less readable.

Pat my mother Catherine Smyth was born in the Garngad. Her brother Pat still stays in Royston Square. My mother lived in East Kilbride until she passed away a couple of years ago. She had a lot of fond memories of Garngad. Feel free to e-mail back............. Steve Bourne

According to "Both Sides of the Burn" Yoker was also given the "The" prefix and known as "The Yoker" which I haven't heard in use.....I used to hear "The Yoker Langy Toi" but since the street was renamed I guess "The Yoker Speirsy Toi" dosen't strike the same level of fear into rival gangs!

As a taxi driver for many years i have never had anyone ask to be taken to The Faifley (Boundary charge), it's always just Faifley, Josef was also correct with The Gorbals, then there's The Merchant City, as for The Drum, that is just an abbreviation like, The Milk Pronounced Mulk, The Shields, The Shaws, there will be other examples, it's a bit like pop music, you would say The Beatles, but never The Abba or The Queen.

Another one, in my day, was The Arden, never Arden but Carnwadric next door never got the 'the' in fron of it.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.

What age were the punters you were hanging about with. Were they referring the The Ardennes?

I doubt that.
It was the 70's and none of use were students of history.
Or to put it another way we weren't to bright!
