Paisley - Millarston Demolition

I went over to Paisley yesterday to have a look 'round and size up some vantage points. There's only one place worth looking at and that's Belltrees Crescent where the houses shown on Google Maps have been demolished. This is immediately to the north of the railway line and west of the flats. You can see all three towers from top to bottom.

Full report here >>

I'll add the photos to Scott's map in due course.

Cheers for the heads up on the date ;)

These flats have been stripped for months now and I was wondering when they were coming down.

Stinking junkie infested flats for years although everyone local uses them as landmark so it will be strange when there gone.

Millarston photos are now on Scott's Demolition Map >>

I've checked the FirstGroup night service and their No. 9 "Bendy Bus" runs throughout the night from Central Station to Linwood and passes through Ferguslie. I shudder to think what creatures of the night will be abroad during the dark hours  - I just hope they crawl back under their stones before I make my way from Sighthill. :(

I've just realised I won't be able to make this or the Sighthill demolitions - I'm at T in the Park :(

Gutted.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions...

1.) Glasgow high-flats, aromas of chemical dump, ghosties and ghoulies, long-leggety beasties and things that go bump in the night... Bendy-bus full of species not yet described by science, followed by sleep deprivation in Millarston, all whilst trying to ensure safety of life, limb and camera equipment.

- or -

2.) A weekend in rural Kinross-shire.

Could agonise about that all night.

1.) A stinking, muddy, crowded, food-poison-camp-fire-breakfasty, unsanitary, pint-of-piss-dodging weekend while squinting to see the band and hoping they'll hurry up so I can run to the stage at the other end of the site to catch the next good slot. Oh, and it'll all happen again next year.

- or -

2.) Watching the results of someone putting hundreds of kilos of dynamite inside brick towers and smashing them to smithereens.

*cries*

3.) Hang it! Let's go to Somerset and watch Yeovilton Air Day - Royal Navy Harriers and Helicopters and mock battle at the end - pyrotechnics, bombs going off... Then get cidered up at Roger Wilkins' cider farm and spend a week recovering in intensive care.

Cake and eat it! :D

These came down around 5.55am this morning, Going to be weird passing everyday and the landscape being completely different.

Loads of people with camera's, Anyone from here?

Check the nugget in the red tracky at the bottom of the picture, he staggered about for a good half hour bammin people up. Then in good old Ferguslie fashion there was even a fight at the end. (Didnt get that on vid though)

They brought them down rather neatly. Is that Pink Floyd's Empty Spaces playing in the background? - How apt :)

The Millarston low rise blocks are now vacant and due for demolition.
Pretty grim place now , and black and white doesn't really help cheer things up :)
