It looks like the bombsite is going to keep us amused for a while yet. I was up there this afternoon taking photos and this old guy with a big dog came over to talk to me. He lived in one of the maisonettes next door and had been evacuated overnight to a hotel. He'd watched the other two come down last year and didn't figure it would be worth his while to watch the three coming down. No worries, the footage was still on the camcorder so he saw it anyway.
He told me how it took three months to fill in the Stinky Ocean and they poured a huge cap of concrete over it. He also told me about Jack's Mountain - I think this is what it was called - which was a sulphurous spoil heap. They landscaped it and it is now Cowlairs Park.
He reckons he's got a moonscape for a kitchen window view for the next three months. The contractors have started clearing the rubble at the lower end of the site and he was of the opinion that his rubble will be the last to go. That's the one with the communications platform on top. Someone in another parish has posted a good photo of it silhouetted against a sunset. There's still opportunity to have another go.
