It looks like the bombsite is going to keep us amused for a while yet. I was up there this afternoon taking photos and this old guy with a big dog came over to talk to me. He lived in one of the maisonettes next door and had been evacuated overnight to a hotel. He'd watched the other two come down last year and didn't figure it would be worth his while to watch the three coming down. No worries, the footage was still on the camcorder so he saw it anyway.

He told me how it took three months to fill in the Stinky Ocean and they poured a huge cap of concrete over it. He also told me about Jack's Mountain - I think this is what it was called - which was a sulphurous spoil heap. They landscaped it and it is now Cowlairs Park.

He reckons he's got a moonscape for a kitchen window view for the next three months. The contractors have started clearing the rubble at the lower end of the site and he was of the opinion that his rubble will be the last to go. That's the one with the communications platform on top. Someone in another parish has posted a good photo of it silhouetted against a sunset. There's still opportunity to have another go.

I remember playing around the stinky ocean when I was around 13. The cooncil also used to periodically send someone up to meter the air around my school (St. Mungo's Kennedy St. Annexe)

Brigit - I think I saw you setting up your tripod next to a wee roundabout about an hour before the demolition - was that you?

Was this thread moved to Glasgow Chat sometime in the past? I don't remember ever going to that board to post before, but I've got some posts further up this thread.

No wonder I didn't find anything about Fountainwell on Saturday night. My memory's going before my time.

I feel like I'm turning into my dad - something I never thought I could imagine happening - but that makes me want to go and dig out some local history of my own.

I had a three-quarter length black coat, black joggies and a khaki rucksack with me. I did set up by the roundabout on Keppochhill Drive at about that time. There was a guy with a BMW taking photos there just before me.

Yeah it was you. I got out of my car (parked behind you) and walked down the street to where the projectionist had set up under the green tent. I asked him about whether the road would be blocked off later and he said he hadn't a clue, he'd only been drafted in earlier that day but it wasn't a bad spot if I could get back to it.

I wandered back up by you again but you were looking pretty engrossed in your tripod by that point. I was wearing a horrible old beige puffy waterproof jacket that probably looks a bit MeraPeak-esque, so I don't blame you for looking the other way.

Damn, I was on Keppochhill Road on the wee grassy bit (had a blanket and some bemused looking friends around me) and was considering talking very loudly about HG...

Ohwell :P

Great pictures everyone! :D

I'm so pissed off I missed it ; I'd have loved to have been cutting about with Brigit in the middle of the night in town.

Sadly a 'routine operation' in mid November, has become an infection, has become just beyond a fing joke, and I'm only leaving the house to go round the corner to the GP or to get re-admitted back (AAAA) into hospital from time to time.

I thought I'd post a video of my own. Its a long time since Fountainwell was raized to the ground but this might keep some of it alive.
