Official figure just out from SavePollokPark.com - 1100 people attended todays vigil!

Also, if anyones interested in seeing a short vid of Cllr Ruth Simpson expressed her view on why the consultation came to the conclusion it did, despite the fact literally hundreds of people crowded Pollokshaws Burgh Hall to overflowing... click the following

BBC wrote:About 400 people gathered at Pollok Park and formed a human chain as a protest against the Go Ape development.

Noone have any photos of the crowds to illustrate the discrepancies in the figures?

As obviously there is only one group who will benefit from the public thinking the level of protest was low!

I emailed the BBC earlier to point out the fact that their estimate was out but I wouldn't expect to see them amend the page. I'd have been at the protest yesterday if I could have as this whole episode is really hacking me off.

I have also emailed the BBC - they are way off in their estimate. I would reckon that there were more than 400 in the Glade alone and they had people encircling another couple of areas e.g. around where the reception are will be. I was in the Glade and there were crowds of people being directed by the stewards further up in to the woods.

I suspect this proposed Go Ape-Centre is nothing more than the usual ploy of developers/speculators to obtain the land by getting a foot in the door. If "a change of use" has been obtained and the centre built (or half built) you may find a new proposal for this land use.......housing or apartments?

Go Ape firm has its say

Image

IT has sparked one of the biggest uproars Glasgow has known and has brought hundreds of people out in all weathers to protest.

But Go Ape's plan to build a high-level adventure course in the trees of Pollok Park looks likely to get the go ahead when it comes before city councillors in the next few weeks.

Worries about noise, disturbing wildlife, damaging plants and trees, lack of toilets and car parking are among the concerns raised by protesters.

Today, speaking exclusively to SARAH SWAIN, Go Ape chief executive Tristram Mayhew answers the plan's critics and attempts to reassure people on every area of concern.

POLLOK Country Park in the South Side of Glasgow has been named best park in Europe.

It beat off tough competition from parks in Poland, France, Italy, Sweden and Germany to clinch the top prize.

Last year the park - run by Glasgow City Council - was named the best park in Britain and it has now became the first UK park to win the European award.

Land and environment executive spokeswoman Ruth Simpson said: "The Dear Green Place is celebrated for its parks and green spaces and this accolade simply confirms Pollok Country Park is a unique place of natural beauty.

Further indictment that commercialisation of EUROPE's best park is not warranted nor wanted!
