From the Hootsmon article:
Earlier this year, Go Ape caused controversy by applying to build a tree-top adventure course in Pollok Park, Glasgow. The plans were turned down.

Sadly untrue. The Holyrood Government's decision on whether to call this in is due next week, isn't it?

A bit like the Russkies going into Georgia you mean. That's no coincidence that happened on the same day the Chinese Olympics kicked off. The worlds' eyes were elsewhere!

You don't think the Holyrood Parish Council has interfered enough in other places?

Seems a bit of a farce havng it "referred" in the first place, just to have it rubber-stamped. Especially when the application in question clearly contravenes a number of "material planning considerations", not to mention the objections on legal grounds.

It's not over yet, by a long way.

It's about time they interfered with things that 900 of their voters decided to moan about.

No wonder there is apathy, we really do get what we deserve.

A whole 900 voters? It was political apathy that brought about the current minority Holyrood Parish Council whose only interest, in this case, is making GCC look in the wrong.

The pertinent question might be what brought on such political apathy.

And, speaking as tourist to our city, what would your answer be?

I suppose I'm a tourist...

I went to the Burrell Collection a couple of years ago and I've been back to Pollok Park in more recent times. All that spoilt it was the sound of (I presume) the M77 motorway which runs close by. I believe there was a protracted protest before that was built...

Vandalism isn't just the preserve of behooded youth:

I guess there will be well greased funny handshakes at the back of Go Ape in Pollok Park. Just another way to fleece the retarded hominids that will flock there to swing through the trees instead of dragging their knuckles along the ground.

A hundred years ago, Cheddar Gorge, in my old part of the world was an unspoilt gorge of astounding beauty. Today it has gift shops and lord-knows-what at it's foot to extract pelf from unsuspecting Brummies on a day out. There's even talk of putting a cable car in... If that doesn't finish it, the local quarries will eventually eat into it. The view from the top has long been ruined by the industrial park on Wedmore Road. No doubt a similar fate will in time befall Pollok Park. I hope not.

For the time being, Pollok Park provides an almost rural retreat, a managed estate reminiscent of those of yore, an enclave of a previous time. We'd better get down there with our cameras and record it so that future generations can be pissed off about it too.
