Grazer, I didn't say you deserved a harsh respnse, what I said was you shouldn't have expected any less of a response considering what had gone before you on this thread. But I admit my frustration was, to an extent, mis-directed and so I apologise for that.

This thread is specifically about the Commonwealth Games and was and is not intended as a sounding board everyones every gripe in respect to regeneration, a point I have made throughout the thread. I do not, as anyone familiar with HG will know by now, blindly support any and all development whether in the East End or not, but I will defend legitimate and worthwhile exercises aimed at improving the city and the lives of those therein, which is exactly what the CWG's aim to do, and going on Manchester's experience (and current boom!), is exactly what they will do. Perhaps not in the way you (as in anyone) think it should, or would like it to happen.

Please don't be put off posting because I've questioned the cogency of your argument, albeit in a derisory manner, as that certainly was not my intention. As I've said, everyone is entitle to their view and I'm more than happy for anyone to express it. But if I feel that view is wrong, or rather mis-guided, then I will feel the need to pick up on it.

How about taking this discussion to the East End Local Developemnt Strategy thread (EELDS, just a few items down on the Development forum index), where it would be more suited, and we can discuss the pros and cons of each individual development site in the East End, but outwith the scope of the CWG's?

Grazer it’s great that you have ‘broke cover’ and please ‘do stay out I the open’ :) . I really hope that my ‘diversity and disagreeing bit has not been taken badly by you. I was not meaning to critizise you for holding any particular view – just meaning to agree with you that we can all have different views.

One of the positive things about Hidden Glasgow is that it is not just all about ‘experts’. Different views based on opinions and real-life experiences are equally welcome. In fact I think that the thing that Hidden Glasgow participants are generally against are the pseudo experts or the people who push their opinions as somehow uncontestable facts (especially when they are lecturing us that some initiative or other ‘will never work’).

And no, I don’t like the Duke Street wall  … but there again I can fairly bore the life out of people by going on (and on) about the nearby old Duke Street prison wall – when other folks clearly are thinking ‘what is he on about… what is he on?’

So each man or woman to their wall and, again, please do keep actively posting your tuppence worth.

I wonder - are there any 'experts' on HG, or even just on this thread?

Not much call for that particular expertise round these parts.

Glasgow 2014 Games legacy

Image

19/05/2008

People across Scotland are being asked what legacy they want from the 2014 Commonwealth Games at a series of countrywide events in May and June.

Scottish Government staff will make a presentation about the development of a Commonwealth Games legacy, which will be followed by a question and answer session.

The Scottish Government will publish an interim action plan towards the end of this year, and a Commonwealth Games Legacy Plan in summer 2009.

Communities and Sport Minister Stewart Maxwell, said:

"This Government has always made clear that hosting the 2014 Games is not just about hosting a two-week sporting festival.

"It presents Scotland with great opportunities to make real improvements to people's lives, to raise our sights as a nation and regenerate communities across Scotland.

"We need individuals, groups and organisations to examine our proposals rigorously, and to think creatively about how the Games can help in their area.

"That's why we hope people throughout Scotland will attend these events."

Confirmed events:

May 27 - Motherwell - Strathclyde Country Park 18:00 to 20:00
May 28 - Ayr - Citadel Leisure Centre from 18:30 to 20:00
June 9 - Edinburgh - City of Edinburgh Council, City Chambers from 18:00 to 19:30
June 12 - Dundee - Hilton Hotel, Earl Grey Place from 18:00 to 19:30
Further events are planned in Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, Portree, Falkirk, Aberdeen, Oban, Dumfries, Melrose, Kirkwall and Helensburgh.

Places are limited and anyone wishing to attend should email glasgow2014commonwealthgameslegacy@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

One of the biggest regeneration projects of its kind in Scotland, the £300m 2014 Commonwealth Games village, will be designed by the team behind the Scottish Parliament building, The Herald can reveal today.

Scots international architectural company RMJM is part of the winning City Legacy consortium, and is expected to be confirmed as the successful bidder for the prestigious project by Glasgow City Council on Friday.

Oh dear. How long overdue? How much over budget? Leaky windows? No mobile phone reception?

At least there have been no problems with the access floor
