I received a private E-mail concerning this topic earlier today and it was inadvertently lost. Unfortunately I don't know who sent it. Would whoever it was kindly send it again.

The old Clock was scraped. Following efforts to pass it on to anyone interested and finding no takers and with no place to store it the developer took it down. There was also some mixed feeling within the local community about keeping the clock. Following a small survey on a local forum most people indicated that they did not feel that there was a place for the clock within the new centre and also indicated that as it never worked properly the best thing to do was scrap it.

That's a shame! There never was going to be a place for it in the shiny new centre....Marks'n'Sparks, et al would make sure of that. It could, at least, have been given to a local project such as;

to spend time on and restore

There does appear to be a fair bit of digging going on over there..

I'd heard houses for the site, although retail was possible. Cinema is a new one on me.

8O If you look at the overall groundplan of the areas concerned......you will notice that there is a collossal area taken up as a car parking area, which takes you approximately across the 'burn' from Burnbrae Primary School.
This is a vast area of interest, and is almost the length of the Silverburn complex again.....
As the Council have scheduled to close Burnbrae and other local primary schools, for an amalgamated re-build on another site, the Burnbrae site becomes the 'Jewel in the Crown" and could easily be linked to the new Persimmon's houses in Priesthill, and of course the areas of the old Cowglen Hospital, together with areas held by the National Savings Bank.
Now if you look at that overview, it is plain to see that someone is going to get 'Mega-bucks' for developing such a wide and diverse area.
The key question is...."do we as local people want or need it"
and "will the Council sell of the assets to fund other evils...?"
As a local person I can see any remnants of community life being eroded totally in favour of private housing estates and facilities that most local people from Pollok would find difficult to afford...
The 'Go Ape' proposals may only be a tester of things to come for the Pollok Green Areas gifted to Glasgow, and now very much at risk....!

The Cinemas going to be up beside the B and Q at Darnley along with a bowling ally etc.
also planned is a massive 5 star hotel on the same site.
The plans for the old Cowglen hospital if I rememberwere like you said retail units. Flats and housing would fit in that area as well.

r.e the old clock , the story id heard was that the centre manager who incidentally ran the old pollok centre didnt want it in his new centre anyway and actually personally made sure the contractors scrapped it when the old centre was being torn down , dunno how much is true ....imo the clock might have been a better monument adapted for outside use and placed where `the beast` eyesore is at tesco

Post up your photos Fos.

I repeat what I said earlier. The clock was offered to anyone who wanted to take it. The Centre Manager may not have wanted it at any cost but he delayed scrapping it till time was spent offering it to any one who wanted to take it away.

As far as the Cowglen site is concerned there are two possibilities as the NSB has been looking at selling of part of their land for development. This would be for housing. The other site was the subject of the original proposal from Retail Properties as part of the Shopping Centre development. The area to the east of the M77 was to be a retail park. One of the reasons for the Silverburn development taking so long to get started was due to the need to get approval from the then Scottish Executive to build a link road to the site under the M77 and construction of the on ramp to the motorway.

It is my understanding that an application for the retail park is currently with th Planning Department.

The other site mentioned that currently has Burnbrae school is not as big as it mat appear. There are three football pitched next to the school and these are not part of the school site. There are plans being worked up for this area to be included within the Council's Sports Pitch Strategy. It is true that the Burnbrae site will be marketed for development. This school like others that have been part of the Council's Pre 12 Strategy will help to fund other school renewals.

The sit at Darnley Mains was the subject of a Local Hearing held by the Scottish Government's Reporter at the end of last year. His recommendation will be made to the Scottish Government in a couple of months. The plan for the site includes private housing, retail park and a hotel.
