I used to go and buy Spectrum games in the mid 80s, I think it was two brothers who ran the stall, they would have photocopied lists of the games for sale as well as a couple of originals spread across a table for cover, you could even ask them to test the game to see if it worked as they had a couple of Speccys plugged in! These guys were computer guys and when Spectrums and Commodore comps died out they move onto Atari & Amiga's, sure sometimes when you got home they didn't work, but if you went back the next week he would give you another tape.
I also remember a really cool bootleg concert stall next to a porn mag stall, used to embarrass my mum no end when she was waiting on me buying yet another Simple Minds bootleg ::):

I remember my dad taking me to a place just like that in the Barras. Could have been the same one... :)

There was some revamping of the baras last year, but in my view the whole place needs to be leveled and redone in a proper way.

That photo is of a precinct that was built on the site of the Moncur Street Hostel about twenty years ago. Leveling the whole barras and rebuilding it 'properly' would be a disaster.

Anyone remember Glesga Harry
He sold ornaments and stuff all year round and at Christmas it was toys and if you didn't buy from him he went crazy?

I wonder what happened to him?

Why would it be a disaster ?most of the buildings are starting to fall by the wayside anyway.. which has resulted in a new masterplan for the area.

Look how successful the Forge indoor Market has become with modern stalls and trading legal. :)

I was a regular visitor at that stall, in those days, pc's had little power and shitty graphics, the "Bitmap Brothers" were kings

From the age of about 5 years old until I was 11 I was taken to the barras nearly every Saturday. We stayed in Easterhouse and my dad would go out first for a "quick" pint and my mum and young brother would meet him at Angelo's restauraunt, which is where Hoops is now, we'd have a full 3 course meal then wander round the barras. First stop for my comics which would be either Casper, Wendy Witch, Richie Rich or one about a skinny soldier (?) and we'd sometimes have a candy floss.
My dad having completed his weekly family duty would then escape for another few pints and my mum would drag my brother and I round Goldbergs. Every Christmas Eve my older sister would take me with her while she hunted for last minute pressies. I loved those days :)
Since I have lived in the Gallowgate for the last 11 years I have only been to the barras about three times !
have I missed anything ???

I remember them too, but was mainly ST games i got, there used to be 3 or 4 of them dotted about the place. Youd pay for the game and about 10-mins later theyd come back with the disk.

I'm going off topic a wee bit, sorry.
Someone told me about a great collectors market near Anderston or thereabouts, does anyone have more info ?
