Wonderful - can we not get back to talking about tunnels or whatever now?

If you want to talk about tunnels... there's threads for that. People don't post for the amusement of all. AND if you aren't interested SELF CENSOR and don't read it.

If it's utter crap thats being posted it gets deleted.

And this is not just targeted at you (so don't whine and take it personally), rather it's just a reminder to all that a little self moderation IS actually possible.

Fair enough, im well aware that people don't post for everyone else's amusement.

Its not a case of self-censoring, its just that reading a thread only to see it descend into two folk having a go at each other isn't really very interesting, in my humble opinion.

Don't worry, i'm not taking it personally at all, just calling for normal service to be resumed!

I think you'll find the matter had already been put aside before your interjection Gordon. My initial post wasn't directly aimed at anyone: I was simply explaining why I think the expansion of Tesco and the investment in Pollok as a whole is a good thing ...the mentalist that I am

i see there's one of those awful mini tesco's opening soon in a new block of flats in shawlands. with morrison's, somerfield, lidl, co-op, this and the huge pollok tesco all in close proximity, i worry somewhat for the numerous small and/or independent businesses in shawlands (which seem to be thriving at the moment compared to a few years ago).

having said that, sainsbury's used to have one of these mini ones in shawlands, and it flopped.

i hate going to places like stirling where EVERYTHING is a high street chain. it just destroys the place.

Curtsy, On my 16th birthday, I began my Apprenticeship as a "Boilermaker Welder" with Babcock & Wilcox in Renfrew, during my time there, I helped to build the components that would eventually lead to the commission of Conventional & Nuclear Power Stations. From there I went to "John Brown's Offshore" at Rothsey Dock, in Clydebank, where I participated in the construction of Oil Rig Legs & Flare Booms for the Offshore Industry. From there I headed north to Nigg Bay in Ross Shire, where I was a small cog in the big wheel that was responsible for the construction of the Oil Rigs that would eventually grace "fields" as far apart as the North Sea & Argentina. From there I moved west & south to aid in the construction of the the "oil & gas" terminal at "St. Fergus" near Peterhead.
I then headed back to Babcock’s where I was partly responsible for the construction of the missile launch tubes on the Trident Submarines & the "European Wind Tunnel" wherein commercial passenger planes are aerodynamically tested. When Heavy Industry went into decline, I moved over to the "New" industry of computer assembly, initially with Compaq & then with Foxconn. Both of these companies eventually left Scotland for Eastern Europe in general & the Czech Republic in particular. Sad to note that already both organizations are in the process of locating further east, initially to Hungary then no doubt, all the way back to the far east.
It pains me when I see young Vlad and others hold up the "Dignity" of the working class, dignity never came into it, we were treated like the shite on the sole of your shoe, like a bad smell, necessary to complete the job but fully expendable afterwards. I eventually moved into the retail sector, as chief cushion plumper for one of the high street's more well known department stores. Funnily enough, though the pay is keech, I am happy there, I have achieved the holy grail of "Job Satisfaction" I love people, I meet hundreds of them every week, I enjoy being there each day, I enjoy making folk happy, no bad thing, eh? And of course, in this warm weather, the hooter count is off the scale

Well, after 40-odd years of thankless graft job satisfaction has eluded me so far. Maybe your way is the way to go. Quite happy to start from the bottom up.
