What is Braehead?

Postby mrspg » Mon Nov 21, 2005 3:58 pm

Do you think of Braehead as a town, an emerging town, a village, a destination?
Or is it just a shopping centre?
For example, would you say you were going to Ikea at Braehead? or going to Ikea and Braehead?
Also have you heard about Xscape? Or anything else new happening there?
Be interested in what you have to say on this.
Thx

It's a shopping centre.

A town/village etc would need a population, as well as some facilities other than shops.

And decent transport links, it's a bitch to get to if you don't drive.

I think you would just say you are going to Ikea. It transcends location and become a destination in its own right. If it gets much bigger it'll make it onto the map!!

I look forward to someone with better photoshop ability than I have to illustrate Xscape at Braehead

All these big shopping centres or 'malls' have all got the same problem.... no decent transport links.... they are not designed for pedestrains

And from my point of view, they don't like bikers.... Braehead is massive with thousands of car park spaces.... but no motorcycle bays

Braehead was on the map when Ikea were just making wooden spoons for vikings!!

Nothing's new, only forgotten.

Thanks to Timchilli's Muttonhole thread for the map. In fact, if I ever start a band I'm going to call it Timchilli's Muttonhole Thread.

What the hell will we be speaking like in 30 years time!!

I imagine that more people worship at IKEA on a Sunday than do so in a Church.

Do they not print more Ikea catalogues than bibles now?

Growing up in Renfrew, Braehead was a f-off big Power Station. It's other claim to fame was when the Deanside transit sheds went on fire, then an explosion sent corrugated sheeting over the Clyde and gas bottles were rocketing about the sky. Somebody'll have pics I guess!

I missed the religious bit when i was telling Vlad to be steady about calling Braehead a modern day Cathedral.

I thought he was making revered reference to it's architecture.

Personally i think in about ten years time we will be comparing the Braehead Shopping Centre to Cumbernauld Town Centre.

Given the money that was spent on it i think it looks shit.
