The eastern flank was basically to go straight down the High St.
A number of buildings were demolished in the early 80's in preperation
for this. The Townhead interchange was also built specifically for this
purpose.

And here we have the proposal for the TownHead interchange.... GHASTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's awful. The road bridge in the middle is obviously Cathedral St,
but what the hell's happened to the Royal Infirmary?

As Billy Connolly says a lot, who are these bastards? ::):

And another thing - why is it these 'illustrations' always have lots of trees
next to the motorways?? I'll bet the drawings of the M8 carving up
Charing Cross also had lots of trees in 'em. As if new trees would prosper
and flourish in all those lovely traffic fumes...

Off Topic- Bell's Bridge

Postby Alasdair » Wed Mar 17, 2004 7:48 pm

Does anyone else admire Bell's Bridge?

It's got a straightforward name; the path goes in a straight line rather than in a curve unlike many of the designs for Tradeston; and it had its heyday at the Garden Festival of 1988, which most people remember fondly. Shame it's surrounded by car parks and taxi ranks.

There are plans to also build a new 4 lane road bridge at the bottom of Finneston Street at the North rotunda. And there is a proposal for a bridge between Partick and Govan as part of the Glasgow Harbour development.

RE~ The picture of the planned Townhead interchange

I am an 'expat' - When I left Glasgow, Townhead was still a thriving community albeit the tenements were almost all gone. The shops in Castle St, Glebe St and Stirling road were still there, as were Townhead baths and Townhead Library.
Sad to say that when I visited Glasgow a few years back, Townhead looked just like the illustration posted above.

Springburn looked as if someone had driven straight through with a huge steamroller

Very sad!

Sorry for dragging this back up but I thought it best to stick to the original thread...

I took a photo of the new jetty/pontoon they've built opposite the Renfrew Ferry.

Is this where they're moving the ferry to? Or what else could it be for , any ideas? (other than, for boats :D )
