Bringing this thread back up again for Boxer6 - re latest Red Road updates.

Funnily enough I was in town last night - noticed that only 33 Petershill Drive (ex YMCA block) is still "switched on" - looks like it is close to full occupation judging by the numbers of lights on at night. I guess what they did was they consolidated all the remaining tenants into one tower, which will get emptied last.

The remaining Rosemount Street block in Royston seems to be emptying now....seems to be a lot fewer lights on at night than in the autumn.

No movement yet I know about on Bluevale/Whitevale unless anyone has heard anything on the grapevine.

Aye - I didn't see that one coming for sure ::):

All a bit like those Las Vegas hotel demolitions they do in the movies, but why not I guess.....whilst the world is watching, they may as well make an occasion of it to say the city is turning the page on the mistakes of the past.

Should be quite the spectacle :D

Hopefully it is done well, seemed odd that they are all at the same stage of strip out, a well kept secret!

I don't fancy the task of clearing up all that mess in one go though ::):

No doubt Top gear will have a car on each roof to see which one get the most accident damage & Michelle MOAN will be in every paper & Mag telling us her ex had a knee trembler on one of the stairwells with a temp, whilst poor Michelle was giving birth in hospital

No mention that the tower which will remain after the global demolition derby, is being used to house asylum seekers.

Quite frankly I find it embarrassing that when Glasgow has the chance to promote itself and Scotland to the world, Matheson and his cronies resort to cheap stunts which in the cold light of day is little more than social cleansing with dynamite

As for his comment that it's "Pure Glasgow" all I'd say to him is "away n bile yer heid, ya rocket"

This. An absolute embarrassment. How to celebrate the Commonwealth Games, tell you what, let's blow up houses!!

That must have been some meeting. Have they been watching W1A?

Its in quite poor taste imo.
And people outside will see one tower remain and reckon that they have screwed it up.

Is it really social cleansing though?? ......they've already been cleared. They are just empty shells now. Does it really matter at the end of the day.

For those that are getting misty eyed about the loss of steel and concrete, let us not forget that we are getting rid of the results of a failed social experiment - poorly planned, asbestos ridden monstrosities which have served their purpose.

I don't think it's the actual structures themselves but the message this type of nonsense represents.

Not sure which, but one of the articles I've seen about this stated quite early on that the remaining block houses asylum seekers.

Equally though - there has been no mention that the surviving block will be populated at the time of the blow down either - it might just be that there is no time now to get everyone rehomed, then get the asbestos removal and soft stripping done in time - which takes months.

You have to say though, that given the original estimates was for all eight towers to be down by 2017; they are going to be years ahead of schedule. So this has clearly been on the cards for some time.

Take heart that they didn't choose Bluevale/Whitevale instead - that would have been much more interesting pulling that one off without upsetting people!

the council said today that the other block housed "immigrants" and that they would all be getting tickets to watch the spectacle.this was on the radio this morning.im sure it makes some kind of sense to do it this way and someone will be getting their belly rubbed and heid patted for coming up with it.

Poverty porn. What are they going to do with the rubble? They must have a very large hole to fill or a new motorway to build.
