It's great that another retailer is moving in, I would have thought that the Bank of Scotland might have tried to get it back in order to stamp their mark on the style mile/golden z. My addled mind might be tricking me but did the RBS not move out of it's building next to TFIs in favour of a jeans shop only to move back in five years later?!

Not confirmed yet.

Last night a spokesman for Abercrombie & Fitch said: “We can’t confirm or deny we’ve been looking at that particular site. We don’t go public with real estate details until the deal is done.

“What I can say is that we’re looking at a range of fantastic locations in many major cities across Europe for future Abercrombie & Fitch flagship stores.”

The window was full of old sewing machines at the weekend. Looked really good. Apparently the All Saints in Belfast is the same.

New Look books a new shop

Fashion giant New Look has taken over the site of a former Borders store.

The store, at Glasgow Fort site, has been lying empty since the firm went into receivership last December.

But shopping centre bosses have confirmed the unit will now be transformed into one of the biggest New Look shops in Scotland.

And store bosses have revealed the new outlet will be home to their exclusive Gold by Giles range, designed by Giles Deacon.

A spokeswoman for New Look said: “We are delighted to be moving to the new Glasgow Fort site.

“The increased space will allow us to offer New Look’s unique proposition across womenswear, including our Inspire, Maternity and Tall collections, menswear and teenage clothing with our market leading Generation 915 line.

“The store will also receive our exclusive Gold by Giles range from British designer Giles Deacon.”

New Look already has a store at the Fort but the new space, just next door, is 6000 sq ft larger at 18,000 sq ft.

It is set to open at the end of this month.

Phil Goodman, manager of the Glasgow Fort retail park, at Easterhouse, said the New Look expansion shows the shopping centre is thriving.

He said: “This is very good news for the Fort and is testament to the confidence New Look have in the future of our site.

“The fact that we have filled the former Borders unit so quickly really shows the strength of Glasgow Fort and the fact that retailers want to be here.”

Mr Goodman added that the store is set to be New Look’s flagship branch for Scotland.

He also confirmed that a new tenant may move into the unit currently being used by New Look but said it was too early to release any details.

The Borders bookshop chain announced it was going into liquidation in November last year with the Glasgow Fort store shutting in December.

The flagship city centre branch of Borders, in a former bank building on Buchanan Street, has since been transformed into a branch of the upmarket fashion chain All Saints.
