Since the Sighthill demolition at the weekend was at night because of the proximity to the railway line - which fell within the exclusion zone - can we assume that the proximity of the Broomloan Court flats to the railway means another floodlit event? :D

They dropped the flats at Millarston at about five in the morning and one of those was almost on top of the line. Mind you, it was the same morning as the first phase at Sighthill. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it at daft o'clock.

I heard they cut the power a few weeks ago, so presumably that means they've finally got everyone out. Usually what happens next is that they strip the buildings of recyclable stuff like copper pipes and electricity meters and this takes about six months. Probably a late summer blowdown at a guess. I know for a guy who sweet-talks the demolition guys and always seems to know the precise date and time a month or two in advance. No word from him yet, so it's some way off.

I heard a couple of weeks ago from a Taxi driver who had been informed by the firm, that the flats are to come down at *** 3am 3rd JANUARY 2010 *** (early hours Sunday Morning as there's less traffic).

So - I know it's short notice, but you might get to see it yet. :D

Ok - I just phoned Helen Street Police office, and they just gave me the number for Traffic Scotland. I phoned TS to see if the motorway might be partially closed due to the (proposed) demolition, and they know nothing about it, although they have said that they don't think the motorway would be closed anyway - they reckon the flats aren't that close to it....

So - if you do go tonight and it's the wrong date after all, sorry - but I can't confirm that it IS the right date/time afer all.

I guess I'll only know for sure if I get woken up in the early hours with a bang, :)

If I get more info in the next hour or so - I'll be back......

BTW - HAPPY NEW YEAR all :P

If there is glass in the windows then they're not coming down. They strip these out during the final month. There will also be blast sheeting every fifth floor to contain the charges and prevent flying debris. The building will look like it's been bandaged with large bin-liners.

I drove past these flats today and there's no sign of any pre-demolition work having started yet. Looks like it'll be a while yet before they come down.

Yes, that's what I thought myself. I only live just up the road and keep an eye on it every time I go past.

P.S. Don't I get a 'welcome to the board' too? :)

Why, thank you :)

They look more like safety goggles, but hey; they'll do. This is a demolition thread, after all. :)
