That's always been possible and isn't going to change once the M74 extension is built - the M74 has been built west of the Maryville interchange with the M73 for many years now (the section from Maryville to Fullarton was completed in 1995 according to this link http://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/index.php?title=M74_and_A74(M)_History#Phase_3_.281987_to_2011.29).

I used that route when commuting to Edinburgh from King's Park years ago: far quicker to head out to Fullarton via Rutherglen, than join the M8 at the Kingston Bridge.

Now the thing is in operationI live on the North side ,and now find it easier to use the M80/M8 to go to Govan rather than go through my previous "rat run" via Springburn, Keppochill Rd, Possil Rd, Garsbcube Rd, then a run down St Georges Rd, a quick turn into Dobbies loan switching into the M8 slip road at Stow College, thence following the slip rd. to Anderson Quay turning to Squinty Bridge and so on into Govan. It was a complicated route but quicker and less stressful than Townhead /Kingston Bridge route. Now it's half the time sent travelling and not as near busy.
One point this forum did not seem to take into consideration was that the Kingston Bridge was taking about 8 times the traffic designed for. Hence the need for major renovation/repairs in the 1990s. Every route from North or South of Glasgow to the west was directed over the Kingston Bridge.
I even tried to get a route from Kirkintilloch to Drumchapel, both on the north of Glasgow. Guess what! it wanted me to take the M80 to the M8 over the Bridge past the airport until I came to the Erskine Bridge onto Great Western Road and so on. No wonder Townhead was a massive bottleneck.
Road planners don't seem to appreciate, moving traffic causes less air pollution than vehicles sitting in a traffic jam.

I've halved my journey time from Knightswood to Gorbals going via the tunnel however the tea time bottleneck for g
for the M77 south means I return via ballater street, kingston bridge and the expressway.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

I wouldn't trust a Sat Nav. what's wrong with an up to date map?,they are cheap enough! My "trial" route was from the RAC website. Originally I had requested a route to Oban, As I did not fancy going via Kingston Br. during morning rush hour. so I went out via A80 Stirling road

Here is a nice little book to get for your Christmas:

The Glasgow We Used to Know...The Archaeology of the M74 Motoway Completion Project in Glasgow and South Lanarkshire by David Drew. Lots of nice old photos and maps.

Have you got the name of the publisher?
I've tried looking for it on Amazon and some more specialised on line book sellers but coming up blank all the time.

I dont know what you are trying to say here but the downloadable pdf linked on that page has all of that. The page itself is just text but if you actually look at the file i mentioned it has all of that.
