Possilpark Bus Depot

Postby Glesga_Steve » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:05 am

Noticed on my way into work this morning that the old Possilpark bus depot is in the process of being demolished (I'll try to grab some photos on the way home).

I'm assuming the site is to be redeveloped - anyone know as what?

I spotted that too. It actually took me a few seconds to realise what they were knocking down!!!

A couple of snaps from this afternoon

From the looks I was getting, I don't think they get many demolition tourists. There was a strong smell of old wood from the roof timbers.

And a wee bonus sign originally pointed out to me by a workmate

Might have been posted in the depths of some thread or other previously.

Part of the Depot is still standing. Can't imagine this GCT logo will be around much longer.

Here's a few photos I took last year (got a brick as well). I was sad to see it go, Possil was opened in 1901, and along with Langside was one of the first purpose built electric tram depots in Glasgow (the others were converted horse tram depots). It had 99 years of almost continuous service.

I had no idea that they had demolished the bus garage, not been up there for some time, but all those streets around Saracen used to be teeming with people when I was young too.

Oh how very true, I mind it all in the late sixties, the 54 and 47 buses, the box factory at Possil road corner, all the kids on their way to the big secondarys around there.
