Pollokshaws Demolition

Postby scottwramsay » Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:50 pm

12 Riverford Road and 21 Riverbank Street are scheduled for demolition on Sunday July 20th and the evacuation is supposed to be completed by 8am. I've heard about this from someone within the exclusion zone who posts quite regularly so if it happens to change we should find out quickly.

Here's my map of demolitions in Glasgow at the moment.

Thanks Scott. We've been bubbling this one along on the "Pollokshaws" thread. There's a reconnaissance of the area, the letter confirming the date and time of evacuation and we have a map of the exclusion zone.

Shawbridge demolition on Pollokshaws thread >>

Looking good for Sunday 20th.

I'll post a link to this thread on the other so that we can keep the debris over here. :)

I was on Cathkin Braes at the end of April. It was a hot Sunday lunchtime, hence the heat shimmer. Here we are peering 'round one of the Dougrie Place towers in Castlemilk at 12 Riverford Road, already with its southerly elevation taken apart.

A good place to set up with a tripod and long lens if you can get someone on site to communicate by mobile.

You should be out checking vantage points for your local demolition.

Capital! I spy football pitches nearby, which means goalposts, which means something to strap my webcam to. Six of the blighters too! I wonder if they'll drop them all in one go. :D

The one at the corner of Lincoln Ave and Archerhill Rd and the the one at the back, up the hill, are going first. From what I've heard it will be at least 2 years. It would be pretty cool if they could drop the lot together.

The pitches are pretty close and will likely be inside the exclusion zone.

The last bit of plant machinery on site, a small JCB, has just been loaded onto a low loader and taken away , it has been busy piling up a small wall of rubble between the graveyard wall and the multi at 12 riverford road , probably to minimise any potential damage to the cemetary wall when the explosion happens in a few week,s .

I can't read the inscription on the (yellowish) plaque set in the wall, but It's about to lose a mighty tombstone.

I recieved a letter from the demolition company today setting out all the arrangements for sunday,s demolition . the resident,s will start to be evacuated from 8 am . the following road,s will be closed from 8am also , ashtree road, greenview street, riverford road , shawhill road ,christian street pleasance street , shawbridge street , and shawholm crescent . there will be no entry to anyone but authorised personnel from 8am until the exclusion zone is lifted at 2 pm . sadly they make no mention of the exact time of the demolition , i will try to get an exact time from the demolition company before sunday .
so , this sunday ,july 20,th both the multi,s at 12 riverford road and 21 riverbank street will be going down at last !!!
