We're still going to get one. It'll just take a while longer. The original plan was for 6 which they softened to '1 and we'll see how it goes for the rest'.

I don't get the idea of the Super Casino too much. It sounds like a giant Supermarket or Airport

What's up with half a dozen little Casinos, which could have been spread throughout the City. Couple in the Town Centre, one in the West End, Southside etc.

A couple of quality establishments with good Restaurants, Ballroom etc would suit Glasgow better.

The big one sounded tacky and i never got the idea of the Ibrox option. That area needs a Super Casino like a hole in the head.

Which i think was the thinking behind the one big casino being a large entertainment centre.

I'm glad that we didn't "win." I never understood the Council's enthusiasm for this project; it certainly wasn't matched by any great public support.
The idea that gambling could regenerate an economy is nonsense and ignored all the likely social problems it would create.
I do hope that the Council will give up on this and not plead a "special case" arguement to bring one to Scotland. It's time that they gave up on big ideas and concentrated on bread and butter issues. To give one example: they campaign for the Commonwealth Games while building schools with inadequate sports facilities.

The council were interviewed on the news tonight, and according to the chap who appeared, their motivation for chasing the bid was the regeneration of the area it would have been sited in, rather than the casino itself, and the subsequent employment that would have been generated.

Their main gripe was that they saw the lack of backing for their bid, by the Scottish Executive, as a major reason for why their excellent bid didn't even figure in the final running.

I find it hard to comprehend that rationale, given that a successful bid was most
likely to result in the casino being built at the SECC or behind St Enochs - as
far as I'm concerned the Ibrox venue (the one where regeneration might have
been aided by this) was total pie in the sky.

Secondly, it's interesting that "it'll bring jobs' argument is used again with no mention
whatsoever of future problems with gambling addiction.

In case anyone was wondering, I too am glad Glasgow didnt get it. ::):

I don't mind Casinos, we are all adults and can make our own choices in life. Most large European cities have Casinos.

I just found something strange about the whole process about it being a Super Casino and the Government Issuing a License with advisory panels like the feckin Olympics. And then Glasgow City Council all over it like a rash.

A Casino should be (within reason) like any other business in the City. If someone sees it as a good opportunity and puts in Planning and manages to secure a License then that's up to them. It is then also up to the general public whether they want to use it.

I just don't get this whole Central Government License Lottery and then Glasgow City Council deciding that we suddenly need a Super Casino. They smelt cash and did not look at the impact or consequences.

Purcell has lost the plot. But it cannot be long before he trots off to Holyrood like Frank McAveety and Charlie Gordon. Job done.

What next? They'll be wanting to put Fluoride in our water next.

::): No, no we cant. We need to be told what to do, or we go mental and start killing/hurting one another.

If we were all adults we wouldnt need 'the law' for example.

Casinos are evil, debauched, criminal places which should be forgotten by our country. Surely we can be more advanced than needing casinos to keep the economy alive?

Nope, they are 'shite'!

Its a laugh reading the evening times though, its like someone died! Get over it, we are capable of much more...

Or maybe we arent. We dont even have the guts to declare our own nationality, never mind oppose casinos. Its just pathetic, and so the future will be if we keep on this path of dependence...
