Grrrr.

"we're kicking the traffic out of town".

Sheer arrogance.

They're closing one stretch of road on the edge of the city centre, for four hours, on a Sunday. A stretch of road that has an adequate cycle path along it anyway. It's utterly pointless and an alibi event designed to give the impression that something is being done for cyclists when it isn't.

I agree, totally pointless and I'm surprised they're closing the roads for it.

And it only adds to the impression that cycling on roads is too dangerous - so in the long run could it be doing more to discourage cycling?

Well, I enjoyed it anyway. The existing cycle path could not have coped with the sheer number of cyclists out in force today.

I was in the People's Palace over lunch and it was heaving due to this. I noted that they had roped off part of the Winter Gardens for "VIP's".
