Daldowie Crematorium is holding one of its regular open days this weekend, on *EITHER* Saturday 15 or Sunday 16 May. The Glasgow City Council website couldn't tell me which ...
Does anyone else know about this? About day and time?
I will definitely be going - anyone else fancy this?

(Probably not the best time and place to use my comedy catchphrase: I'll bring the crisps.)

EDIT: It's on Saturday 15 May, starting at 12. I'll be going with my friend David (also known to PGCC93) at 11.30, because he has a stall to set up (possibly snowballs and diluted orange juice, or maybe leaflets about his project).

I always feel uncomfortable in Daldowie. Personal reasons. I've been once in the last ten years and I got a really eerie feeling.

The open day is on Saturday at 12. I'll be there at 11.30. The day is mainly for people who have previously held services there for their dear departed, so can I suggest that we dress ... er ... less scruffily than usual and behave with a bit of decorum. Sorry if that sounds preachy.

Can't make it, sorry :< I would be interested to see anyone's photographs though, if you're allowed to take pictures.

A visit to a crematorium , are you dead serious , :) i think thats the last place i would wanna go see , and probably will , hee hee . Remember the saying (I would`nt be seen dead in that place) , oh yes you will , :).
I did however in the course of my employment as a decorator work in Maryhill crematorium a few years ago , no dont laugh this is true , it was a fire job.............. re-decoration due to an electrical fault in the new heating system inside the wooden roof of the main building.

p.s. just had to get that one in , :) but if you look closely around some of the crematoriums the architecture and design is very interesting , also some of the buildings in the city centre if you spend time to look ,eg north west corner of george square next to the entrance to queen st station have a look at the sculptures around the doors to the building.

A somewhat thoughtless comment in a recent thread moved me to get up and pay a visit to Daldowie Crematorium today.

Interesting to see the placed closed and inactive, and being there as a visitor rather than user. I'd never had the opportunity to see round the back before, and was surprised to see the extent of the glade to the rear and the fact that it is open to the river Clyde. Bit different from reading old gravestones, but there was a reminder of Piper Alpha.

The buildings are worth a look when the place is deserted, as they and their fittings are in original condition, only mod has been the paintong of some glass to stop outside eyes looking in, probably office areas.

Need to wander back round and look for the odd spots mentioned in here.

Shame it's a crem, I like the architecture and style with the domes.

Was amazed to see plod arrive in a panda car and talk to visitors who were still in their cars. Almost tempted to go back and ask them what they were asked. Maybe checking for ID cards.

Ok, all I had in mind when I posted was to indicate why I happened to be visiting a crematorium on a day when most folk are enjoying a family day.

Maybe you know each other well enough for that to go down, but I think you might need to be scraped out of most pubs in Glasgow if you made a similar remark to someone who seriously announced the same news.
