Towers, Caves and Castle Walk-02/01/07

I'm in the process of trying to organise a Winter walk around the Crookston/Pollok/Mosspark areas of Glasgow. If anyone is interested in tagging along, the Date/Time is open to discussion, but it will be during the Christmas Fortnight (27th Dec-6th Jan) excluding the obvious dates (Hogmany/New Years Day).

As well as travel arrangements that will need to be made, I will be travelling by train from Glasgow Central to Crookston Station (the travel time is only about 15 mins and the price of a return is about £2.50) and will be returning from Mosspark Station to Glasgow Central, The walk start can also be reached by bus along Paisley Road West alighting at Crookston Road.

The Places of interest on this Walk will be:-
Ross Hall Park with it's Ruins and Hidden Caves.
The River Cart walkway around to the Old Leverndale Hospital.
Crookston Castle with its fantastic views from the top.
And finally the Pollok Water Tower in all it's brutalist Glory.

I have put a map here: (>Click Me<) so you get a rough idea of the route, Which is not as long as it looks on the map! It will be easily covered in around 3-4 hours and a pair of boots would be advisable.

As Always, the route is subject to deviation, as other walks have proved in the past.

Anyway, If anyone is up for it, a show of hands Please.

Cheers, Alex P.

This is an unmissable one for me as I did some photographs here back in the early 90's and would love a revisit.

Count me it.

I would like to come. I have only been out that way once, along the cycle path, and I didn't stop anywhere to look around because I was afraid of my bike being pinched. I remember being astounded though to see that castle in the middle of a housing estate!

The department I work in used to be based in Ross Hall and I have wanted to look around there for a long while. I am away over Christmas, but back on 28th, so if you can make it anytime after that, I will join you.

Good Stuff Guys the more the merrier. :)
I think this walk would be good for people who haven't seen this part of Glasgow and also for those who have for some Past/Present type stuff.

Some of the areas have been covered on HG previously but It's still worth the walk.

Here's a little more info on the Ross Hall Caves:-

Ross Hall Park (1890)
This small park of some 30 acres in the suburb of Crookston, between Glasgow and Paisley, lies within a large meander bend of the White Cart Water. At its heart is to be found the most extensive and best-preserved example of Pulham's rockwork in Scotland, commissioned by wealthy industrialist James Cowan in the 1890s.

I suppose, in theory, I am back at work on 3rd. How about 2nd? That is a holiday in Scotland, right?

I am off for a fortnight so any date is suitable for me except hogmany/new year's day the second seems o.k at the mo.

Will set exact date in the next few days.

Was thinking of about 12pm kick off from Crookston Train Station
Those leaving from Central Station meet up around 11.15am for the 11.38am Train arrives at Crookston about 11.50am.

If that's o.k. :?
