Meet at Queen Street Station entrance ( the one next to the subway exit ) at ten to catch the train at 10:18. Early start so we can get most of the walk done before a late lunch at the Portcullis whose kitchen shuts at three.
After a short stroll through a couple of old town streets we'll start the back walk, good shoes for countryside walking will be required as we'll go all the way around the castle walls over to Gowan Hill to the Beheading Stone. On our way we will also visit Oswald the Smith Gallery Cat ( who loves the gift of dreamies ) and the Stirling Story Exhibition there. Entry free but donations welcome.
After lunch, the plan is to make our way to the Settle Inn est 1733 for a digestive dram via the Old Town Cemetery and Broad Street. :D

"The Back Walk was built between 1724 and 1791, and is regarded as one of Europe's finest urban walkways. Work was begun in 1724 by William Edmonstone, Laird of Cambuswallace.
Stunning panoramic views can be enjoyed whilst walking or relaxing on one of of the many seats along the way.

It is the oldest publicly maintained road in Scotland and follows the old city walls up to the castle, then runs around the base of the Castle Rock and back up to the Old Town.

Part of the pathway will take you past the Gowan Hill, site of the Beheading Stone, used in numerous executions, most notably that of Murdoch, Duke of Albany, in 1425. "
