‘Merlin in Scotland and Govan’ – Talk by Tim Clarkson and Double Book Launch at Govan Old Church: Saturday 19 November
Friends of Govan Old and Govan’s Hidden Histories invite you to a free evening event exploring Scotland’s – and Govan’s – claim to history’s most famous wizard!

Saturday 19th November, 6.30pm – 8.30 pm, Govan Old Church, 866 Govan Rd, Glasgow G51 3UU

Based in Govan Old Church, home to the unique Govan Stones, this free event will transport you to a time when Govan was the heart of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde. The evening presents a talk by notable author, independent researcher, and Dark Age historian Tim Clarkson, and the launch of his new book: ‘Scotland’s Merlin; A Medieval Legend and its Dark Age Origins’.

There will also be a brief introduction to our new graphic novel which features Merlin in Govan: Quest for the 13 Treasures of Govan and Glasgow, illustrated by Pete Renshaw, and written by Pete, t s Beall, Chani Bond, Tam McGarvey and Frazer Capie.

‘Scotland’s Merlin‘ – Talk by Tim Clarkson

Who was Merlin? Is the famous wizard of Arthurian legend based on a real person? In this talk, Tim Clarkson traces Merlin’s origins back to the story of Lailoken, a mysterious ‘wild man of the woods’ who is said to have lived in Southern Scotland in the sixth century AD. One part of the story connects this wild man with Glasgow and Partick – which raises an interesting question: Did the real Merlin visit Govan?

The talk will be followed by refreshments, book signing, and a chance to view the Govan Stones. Both Tim Clarkson and Pete Renshaw will be on hand to sign books and answer questions…
