I would love a look at as well, cant even begin to immagine the delight on the ladies face when she looked up into the fake ceiling to see that it was still very much intact..

I went to a private tour a few months ago cos my brother is friendly with Judith. My only disappointment was seeing so little of it. It's not the safest of places and I would have loved to have seen the projection box up close etc. I joined the Friends of Britannia Panopticon in the hope I could help out with tidying up the places you don't normally get to see (like upstairs and the basement).

What kind of tour are you getting - will you be getting an extended tour?

If anyone is interested, Judith will be demonsrating a Victorian seance in a few weeks!

I'll be there with bells on!
Ehhh... cool. Whatever you say, I'm sorry. You're the man. The dude in the chair.

I haven't firmed up any details as yet. This was just mentioned in passing when I was booking my tickets for Doors Open Day on the phone with Judith. She was up to her eyes in arrangements for that then, and suggested I get in touch to make arrangements after Doors Open. I'm away at the end of September, so the plan is that I get in touch with her early October to discuss it and make arrangements. Looks like we're going to number about 25-30 (more than 20 already) if everyone who expressed an interest can come on the day, so I'm suspecting she will want to do a proper tour with that number of folks instead of just letting everyone wander. I'll go over all this with her when we speak though.

Why - what happened? I'll get that date as soon as I go home. You need to book a place for it.

I've a funny feeling it's the 25th (Saturday).

For anyone who can't make it, or who finds access to little nooks and crannies a bit restrictive, Gordon and I had a free run of the place about 18 months ago, plenty of pics of the whole building on his website, including the projection box, the upper floor and the balcony foyer. They're at:

http://www.chem.gla.ac.uk/~gbarr/cinema ... index.html

Incidentally, we both visited the former Rex Cinema in Stonehouse as part of Doors Open day out that way today - a fantastic 1937 cinema which re-used some interiors of the scrapped liner "Homeric", and has lain virtually untouched since closure in the late 50s, except to be used as storage for slot machines! I'll post the link to these pics over on Coffee Lounge. An absolute untouched gem of a place, even the curtains, screen and projectors are still in situ!

I've seen that website before - isn't it a small world? Yours are definitely the best pix :)

Here's the info about the seance:

Saturday 25th September 6.30pm-8pm
A Victorian Seance - Not for the faint hearted!

Britannia Panopticon Music Hall is a notoriously haunted building, so where better to have a traditional Victorian seance? The seance will demonstrate the techniques, tricks and illusions used by the Victorians. This is pure hokum, so please do not come expecting us to contact your Auntie Doris!

This will be a ticket only event and the price is to be announced.

Judith prefers to be written to - I have her email address but am not sure if she'd like me to hand it out.

Her address is:

Judith Bowers
Britannia Panopticon Music Hall Trust
113-117 Trongate
Glasgow
G1 5HD
