live jazz

I'm due a visit back to Glasgow in a week or so and wondered if anyone could recommend a pub where I could catch some live jazz? I'm not overly fussy on style but preferably not 'trad'. Anyone remember Frank Pantrini's regular Saturday slot at the Curlers?

Ken Deans quartet plays Oran Mor Sunday evenings, and there is jazz at the Glasgow Art Club on Bath St on Thursday evenings. The whats on listings is free in most city centre pubs.

As Edward said Michael Deans is on at the Oran Mor Sunday 5 till 8,
and on Saturdays they're at Kudos 29 Waterloo Street and on Thursday at the Beer Cafe in Candleriggs.

Kyle Irwin Quintet play the Drum and ~Monkey St, Vincent Street on Sunday 22nd

Trader Joe's 325 Hope Street has the June Love trio and a big band on Saturday afternoons.

Stuart Brown Trio play The Halt Bar Woodlands road on Saturday afternoon but I'm not sure if he still has a Sunday evening gig at 78 Kelvinhaugh Street.

Perdido Jazz Quartet play mainstream Latin jazz, swing and vocals at The Landsdowne on Thursdays and are at the Bon Accord on Saturday 21st September

Unfortunately Tom Gibbs is on tour in Ireland so maybe Dave Farrell is subbing for him at Guys.

Tom McNiven and the `Phil O'Malley Quintet play the Glasgow art club on Thursday 17th and the following week it's Ben Bryden and the Big Noise quintet. £7 each night.

formed in 1959 the George Penman’s jazzmen are one of a few traditional Dixie Scottish jazz bands still going strong. Helping to preserve Trad / New Orleans / Dixie jazz, the late George Penman’s band, the Penman Jazzmen come together every Saturday in the King Tut’s bar between 2pm and 5pm for an inspiring session of music, food and dance. Food served from 12pm.

Take your usual seat in the corner.

I now realise you are trying to rehabilitate the instrument you're named after but it's a lost cause.
