http://www.glasgowfilm.org/festival/whats_on/4684_the_devils_plantationBased on May Miles Thomas’ BAFTA-winning website, The Devil’s Plantation promises an unforgettable journey into the hidden corners of Glasgow. It tells the true story of amateur archaeologist Harry Bell whose self-published book Glasgow’s Secret Geometry describes his obsessive search for a secret network of aligned sites traversing the city. The original work changed course after the discovery of an abandoned casefile belonging to ex-psychiatric patient Mary Ross whose long walks in the city mirrored those of Bell. Narrated by Kate Dickie and Gary Lewis, the film lovingly captures the spirit of the dérive (unplanned journey or drift) and like any good excursion arrives at a satisfying and surprising conclusion. An eagerly awaited world premiere.
The premiere was sold out and you couldn't get near the bar, but this was a rather special wee film. It was the first film I can recall where the audience spontaneously applauded at the end ( mind you, the director was in the cinema ).
Yeah, was a great film. Shame more people couldn't see it.
I'm now looking at putting on a screening of it at an event I'm trying to put together in the summer along with some bands, somewhere a bit special in Glasgow.
Will keep the Board updated with info.
