Did anyone attend the lecture ? It looked interesting, but I couldn't make it along unfortunately.

By way of whetting your appetites for Sunday, here are a couple of scans from James Cowan's "From Glasgow's Treasure Chest" describing a visit to the Canal at Maryhill from August 1937:

Unless I'm mistaken, the building in the background to the top left of the first image - with a clock in the centre of the chimney is the famous 'clock in the lum' of the original Maryhill Burgh Halls, converted from a bakery, and later a doctor's surgery.

There's a photo of it here in the 1940s, just before it was demolished...

The picture on the right hand page hasn't changed much over the years either - that building is still there, as you'll see on Sunday. Will make a good past present photo!

Till when, ya diddy? It's two days away. You can surely manage to set your alarm for 10:30 in that time.

There'll be plenty of pit stops. And if all else fails, it's a canal path. There are bushes available for most of the route.

Actually, scrub that last sentence. I know exactly how Foss is going to interpret that....

W&D - good to see you both coming along again. It fair lowers the average age, if Fossil is going to be turning up too.

Plus, if you want to do your homework before Sunday, why not download my free Maryhill App (for Android and iPhones) that includes a GPS-referenced nice map of the entire north Glasgow area from 1900, so you can see how the places we'll be passing looked over 100 years ago as you walk along... (do try not to drop your phone in the canal though)
