What's on early in the morning?

Postby dimairt » Wed May 04, 2011 7:16 am

I'm enjoying retirement but still get up at 6.00 a.m. Does anyone have any suggestions for early morning activities? What's on or open that early in the day?

Thanks tobester, I was in Glasgow Central this morning. I ended up going to Hilllington to look at new bathrooms, had lunch with my daughter - she paid too - then made lovely dinner after a wee nap. I'm going out now for a walk along the canal and an ice-cream at Jaconelli's.
Tomorrow's highlights include a book launch at the Gaelic Books Council. Better than work , that's for sure.

Buchanan Bus Station 0735
Kilmarnock Bus Station 0813

Get a dog. Become friends. Take him walks!
The joy of always being awake at that time would be that no one else is.
You'll get to see things that no one else does if you take a walk along any nature trail - roe deer, king fishers, herons, people doing the walk home of shame.

This is my summer head talking...

Keep the mind active.
Enrol on a vocational course of study!

Early morning swim - join the Western Baths Club, 12 Cranworth Street Glasgow G11.
Take a leisurely walk through the Botanic Gardens, stop for coffee in one of the coffee houses in Byres Road (if any are open).

Volunteer in a charity shop or local hospital.

Enjoy your retirement but by God, don't stagnate!

Thanks for all the comments. I've been working on the Census and have a tutoring post with the OU; I'm a volunteer tutor with the Family Learning Group at the Gaelic School - trust me , I do have a full calendar, a busy social life and do go for a walk every day. It's just the early mornings that are causing problems.
I like the idea of jumping on the first bus that comes and will give it a try; I've found that my local pool has early morning sessions.
That should do the trick, moran taing a huile-duine.

There's always the Blochairn Bar (or the Budgie as it's known to all and sundry). Couple of pints, back on the bus by nine, and have a nap till lunchtime and everything is open.

I do believe Eddie is a member of a far superior swim club at Woodside and has just retired from a large and useless charity and he's possibly an atheist. Do you do any of the above apart from having your towels picked up by a lackey.
