Ship Launch - HMS Duncan 11th October 2010

Postby yoker brian » Mon Sep 20, 2010 6:23 pm

The last of the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers being built in Glasgow is being launched on Monday 11th October 2010

Unfortunately I cannot make it along to this one :( but I have some tickets available, which I'm offering to any of the regular posters on here who can make better use of them.

Anyone interested - reply to this post.

Cheers
YB

She's at Fairfields. If you can't wangle tickets you should get a good view from the Glasgow Harbour area across the river.

If you head for http://www.glasgowharbour.com/ and click on O2 Maps and Plans you'll see where the Glasgow Harbour site lies with the shipyard across the river from it.

I set Google to alert me to anything about HMS Duncan, hence me finding this thread.
I live in Cardiff and went aboard HMS Daring at Navy Days in Plymouth.
I was so impressed that I vowed to see Duncan's launch but discovered that I will be in Germany on the 10th of October. However, my wife and I have arranged to return via the Amsterdam / Newcastle ferry, arriving in Newcastle at 0900 on the 11th. That should give me ample time to drive up to see the launch, which I believe is scheduled for 1517.
Thanks to all for the information given here.

You'll know better than many that time and tide wait for no man - even a man on a North Sea Ferry

It's that soon? I thought it wasn't until November.

Have to make sure I can skive off work early. My living room is on the 11th Floor of the last block of flats looking directly over the beast! I've been watching her "grow" for months now :D

Few beers and a prime window seat :D
