Glasgow's Doors Open Day

http://www.glasgowdoorsopenday.com/index.php

This fantastic event is Glasgow's way of celebrating its buildings, its streets, its parks and its people - in short itself!

Now in its 21st year, Glasgow Doors Open Day has become a festival - so we have a whole week of interesting things to do, see and hear.

From Tuesday, September 14th to Sunday 19th 2010 we have walks, talks, seminars, and exhibitions.

We have more than 100 extraordinary buildings to visit for free! This year we are delighted to announce 'Open Gates' where 11 Allotments throughout the city are opening their Gates to visitors

The online booking has now opened for the events that require booking (such as the Waterfront tour, and, the one I'm going on, the tour of Grand Central Hotel.)

I know last year that some of the popular tours/events booked up really quickly, so thought I would give you all the heads-up that booking was open.

Lot of interesting looking tours . . shame I can't do them all!!!

Incidentally, I can recommend this tour. The guy did it as part of the recent Govanhill festival, and he took us round interesting tenements and explained it all. I'm not an architect-head, but it was fascinating stuff.

The celebration of the built environment has dumped at least one notable building from last year's event, but included allotments and parks. 'Built environment'? Too many 'activity' driven sites ( does there always have to be something for kids?) for my liking. But then, maybe I'm a curmudgeonly dinosaur.

Look out for me Tobester. I'll be the impossibly glamorous young woman on the tour. In my head.

(In reality, look for a full-figured 40-something with long hair.)

The Foss flirting with Tobester?

You better lay off that rum.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Page and Park's office was the highlight of the day for me - apart from bumping into Gap74. Not sure if it is open tomorrow, but recommend a visit if it is. Staff there really happy to chat about the projects they are undertaking and a lot of their documentation is available out to look through. Office itself pretty nice too.
