When I was at university, I attended a psychology session all about poor grammar, incorrect spelling and made up words. The conclusion being as long as you could understand the meaning of a sentence, then none of the above mattered.

It doesn't in terms of comprehensibility. It does in terms of credibility.

... which brings to mind the following :

Conjugate the verb 'Done great' :

I done great
You done great
The lads done great.

I wholeheartedly agree.

One of my pet hates is colleagues who write work-related emails in a style that resembles scribbled notes or, to my horror, text messages, even when they are communicating with senior managers or directors (I kid you not)

I've forced many of them into improving their standards by openly ridiculing the quality of their spelling/grammar and badgering them by pointing out that emails are basically the modern-day memo and are even beginning to take over from letters in some respects. It frustrates me that I have to regularly resort to such actions but I feel it is necessary as I believe their poor grammar also reflects on me as their colleague. This is particularly the case with my line manager, who is probably the worst offender but is proving the most difficult to 'convert' - I often wonder to myself what people think of our team when our manager communicates in such a shoddy manner

That approach never works. You'd be better ignoring it.
