Odd things that make you strangely happy....

...other than men that is... 8O

For me, today at least, it is shredding that is making me happy.

The satisfaction of shredding years of dusty old bank statements, ancient insurance policies and well, anything that fots in the shredder cannot be overstated!!

Happy Days.

Some of the strange things that make me happy:

1. Popping bubblewrap
2. Walking barefoot through wet gras on a sunny day
3. Finding that ONE book in a shop and it only costs a quid
4. Opening a new pack of post-it notes at work.

I need to get out more...
Too few hours in the day.

yes, shreddings good. I do a lot of it at work, confidential paperwork so has to be shredded if you make an ass of the photocopying or whatever.

other good one for me:-

1. Finding a bundle of folk who like the strange things that you do and you don't feel like a geek!

Getting into work to find everyone has been horribly killed by a mad gunman - managers, employees etc etc..

..and the police don't even suspect it was you.

Ah... Happy Days...

Sadly no more, (could still be back though with a lottery award last month), but the sound effect and ground shaking under the assault of 4 Olympus jet engines on reheat, producing almost 150,000 lb static thrust as a Vulcan bomber on display pulled up into a steep climb off the runway at Leuchars.

I have witnessed the very event of which you speak.

Man... What an excellent thing to behold - ultrasonic car alarms miles away were set into action by the power of this monowinged delta config. BEAST punching a hole right through the sky.

Bonkers. Mental.

Chris...

PS: I've also flown an English Electric Canberra recon in the simulator... What a giggle... Crashing the thing was so much fun! Press 'reset' and you are back in business - no fatalities!!

Thanks for the memory jog, I'd forgotten about the effect on the car park. Even the biggest modern jets on display now only disturb a few alarms.

Thankfully they never flew in their design role, but I always nod in respect to their crew, having seen part of the Ops Man that called on them to sacrifice one eye to confirm the deployment of their cargo.

Get the Vulcan for MS Flight Sim and download East Fortune's scenery. According to the pilot who flew their Vulcan in, the runway was marginal for the aircraft, and anything other than a perfect approach, which he practiced repeatedly before setting off, would not have been an option for success. Add to that only sufficient fuel to make the trip, to minimise the landing weight, and I think he earned the congratulations he reveived after landing.

Your girlfriend makes you happy? I don't see what's so odd about that.

As for me, it's listening to vehicles from my bedroom. Even though the railway line's nearly half a mile away, I can still hear trains loud and clear as they pass. This is especially true with the sleeper from Fort William, which shows up, loud as hell (being Class 37 hauled helps big time :D) at around five to midnight during the week (20 past 11 on Sundays). I can also hear the sleeper connection to Glasgow Queen Street, which turns up a few minutes later. Also, several planes flying to/from (usually to) Glasgow Airport pass right above my house at a lowish altitiude (so they're quite noisy), and they do this well into the night. Plus, I love the sight of planes passing way up high, leaving long, white trails in the sky.

Having cars, trains, planes etc. blasting along at all hours may annoy the hell out of many, but I find it comforting. It's nice to be reminded that things are still going on in the outside world when you're tucked up in your bed not doing anything.

Ok, not so odd really.

But having a cute neighbour upstairs who is willing to assist a delicate lady (ME, ok) carry big heavy furniture upstairs ... well, this makes me happy. (Especially when i have already been lugging said furniture about for hours previously)

Especially, when the parting shot is "if you need any more help just ask!!! "

:)

HE is called Robert, previously seen permanately in the company of the very beautiful Emily...however, I have not seen hide nor hair of her for some time now... what could that mean i wonder?

... I should really get to know my neighbours better.

But people dont seem to do that in cities do they?
