Buchanan Galleries Chessboard

Postby BenCooper » Fri Jan 01, 2010 10:08 pm

Looking on satellite images for something else - is this really a giant chessboard on the roof of the Buchanan Galleries?

Can we find 32 HG volunteers, do you think?

Well, if having three balls counts, Josef will be a pawn.

Well, that counts me out and I won't be going on a knight's tour, neither. :D

Well, the idea is that I reduce the number of black queens by one, so make your move. There's a white pawn sat at e4 at the moment.

I've got to say, and I agree with DS, that is a quality response!

What's that little building, which is part of the Buchanan Galleries, on the corner of North Hanover St & Cathedral St ? Just at the path into the car park.

It just looks like a store of some kind, but what's puzzling me is the rather elaborate "penthouse" type windows and sloped roof, bit fancy for a storeroom.

Anyone know ?

If I can think back to when it was built, I think it's some sort of electrical substation maybe?

That "little building" contains a lift shaft which gives access to the BT tunnel network.
