Boredom Thread: The Hidden Glasgow Party Tape!

Postby DMcNay » Wed Jul 07, 2004 8:42 am

We all had one: a C-90 cassette witha label on it that read "party tape" or "£mix tape" or somesuch. Basically a tape with some favourite tunes.

Nowadays, the CD-R has replaced the party tape, but the principle is the same.

Lt's make up a HG CD. Everyone suggests one of their favourite songs to go onto the CD.

The rules:

1. Only one track by any artist.
2. You have to take into consideration what has gone before. Nothing should clash horribly with what went before.
3. No thirty minute prog-rock. "Ina-Gadda-Da-Vida" is not allowed.

Oh, and suggestions for a cover are freely welcome.

So, without further ado, I'll kick this off with "From Rusholme With Love" by Mint Royale.

What a way to start an album.

Next!
Too few hours in the day.

Hmmm... would've been good if the bands could have had a Glasgow connection... quite a few to choose.. maybe some Primal Scream, Orange Juice, Strawberry Switchblade, Teenage Fanclub ..

But I'll be more contemporary....

Franz Ferdinand - Take me out.

In keeping with my age I propose Generation X - Kiss Me Deadly

I found an old tape with it on it a couple of week ago. Ah the tunes of my youth

Knowing the HG Krew as I do, it has to be ...

Take Me out Drinking Tonight, by Michael Marra.

I know I said one track per person, but it's gone quiet, so to spark this thread back into life:

"Sparky's Dream" by Teenage Fanclub.

(in place of my first thought, which was "Ginger" by David Devant and his Spirit Wife)

We need a touch a classical I think, we'll this is more classical pop muzic, Andrea Bocelli; Canto Della Terra.
Beautifully arranged song, this was playing when my daughter popped her little head out and took her first breath.
This song also reminds me of the searing pain shooting up my right arm as Mrs Bissell sank her perfectly manicured tallons into the back of my hand.
Tip, stick this song on every moring and feel the life-force surge through your viens.
Many will know this song as the theme tune to euro 2000.
It translates as "Songs of the Terrace".
Oh, the humanity!

Hmm. I think from there we can jump to...

Well, I'll cheat slightly, if I may, and mix two Pop Will Eat Itself tracks into one another ( Since one fits the last song, but is crap, and the other is good. )

We'll have 1/3 of:
Pop Will Eat Itself - Touched By The Hand Of Cicciolina ( World Cup '90 )
into 2/3 of:
Pop Will Eat Itself - Everything's Cool?

I'm resurrecting this thread as it seemed to have died long ago. Here's my suggestion for a full HG themed mix tape(or CD or MD). Each song has some connection to a bit of HG.

The Concept - Teenage Fanclub
Going Underground - The Jam
Tombstone Blues - Bob Dylan
Killermont St - Aztec Camera
The Road To Nowhere - Talking Heads
Avenues And Alleyways - Tony Christie
At The Chime Of A City Clock - Nick Drake
Derelict - Beck
2-4-6-8 Motorway - Tom Robinson Band
Shipbuilding - Robert Wyatt
Mystery Train - Elvis
Photo Jenny - Belle & Sebastian
Spiral Architect - Black Sabbath
Ghost Town - The Specials
Cemetary Gates - The Smiths
Asylum - Mull Historical Society
Down In The Tube Station At Midnight - The Jam
Mother Glasgow - Michael Marra

Please add more!
