BrigitDoon's Birthday Laptop

Postby BrigitDoon » Fri Aug 21, 2009 8:57 am

It's my official birthday soon and MamaDoon wants to buy me a laptop.

I haven't got a clue what to suggest. Harris, my trusty six-year old Compaq is running very well, thank you, but he won't run the video editing software that came with my Panasonic camcorder at more than two frames per second.

What operating system should I go for? I'm running Win XP Pro at the moment. I don't want anything Mickey Mouse or home userish. I'm an IT geek, remember. Harris runs IIS and the new one will need to run a web server as well.

There's the brief, now go and spend MamaDoon's loot.

My next LT will be a MAC. But you need to research what your needs are. No use buying all singing and dancing LT just to play patience. 8O
Thank you. And why not.

Good idea. Will it run Linux? Can I remotely demolish Knightswood with it? :P

It will run Linux, but seeing as it's a certified Unix, it's a bit redundant. You can also dual boot windows on 'em if you are some sort of masochist.

I love Thinkpads and use nothing else.

The T series are great workhorses.

Bombing Knightswood?

Could you leave it half an hour Bridge? I've got a soufflé in the oven, I don't want it going flat.

I've heard Gorget Park is a fine place for a stroll and a picnic.

Good you brought the subject up Brigit.

i'm thinking of gettin a laptop, i'm goin back to uni to do a post grad in visual communications next month, can't decide whether to go for a pc or mac laptop, ive heard that most graphic communication/animation education departments are now using macs, any one have any information about this ?

Its the Glasgow School of Art Digital Design Studio is where am doin the post grad course.

i'd prefer PC but if its all macs they use then i think i'd need to adapt to a mac.

Feed back please.

Mori.

The main teaching studios at the Digital Design Studio.

Can anyone ID the computers?

My son does graphic art and despite having the benefit of a staff discount at Dell bought an Apple.

Cheers Dexter and John, that was the previous policy they had at the House for an art lover DDS dept. and i think they do look like PC's

i think the new dept @ the HUB Pacific Quay they will go on to Mac's as i'm told they have more refined resolution in graphics, i've sent an email off to the course leader to find out what they will be using in future. :D
